About the Position: This position is located in the Ortho Clinic, Outpatient Orthopedic Specialty at the Air Force Academy in El Paso, Colorado.This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.Preferred experience as an orthopedic physician assistant including clinic, trauma and surgery.

Responsibilities

POSITION DUTIES:

 
  • Provide comprehensive medical, preventative, and therapeutic orthopedic healthcare service to cadets, active duty patients and their dependents, as well as retirees with training in orthopedic surgery.
  • Perform first assist duties for the orthopedic surgeon in the Operating Room with surgical procedures and assist with preoperative and postoperative evaluation, history and physicals, medical orders, review of labs and medical clearance.
  • Evaluate total overall orthopedic healthcare needs of patients and develops plans to meet these needs.
  • Teach patients and family members ways to maintain or improve their health status.
  • Perform clinical duties within the field of orthopedic medicine, responsible for independent examinations, diagnosis, and delivering treatment
  • Assist in the operating room including positioning and draping of the patient as well as retracting and assisting the surgeon through the procedure.
  • Perform superficial and deep tissue closure followed by extremity splinting or casting.
  • Assist with postoperative care to include but not limited to postoperative orders, medications, rehabilitation, suture removal, wound evaluation and patient education.
  • Identify components of the clinical evaluation that may be delegated to other healthcare personnel.
  • Evaluate service members for retention accordance with regulations and determine physical limitations and completes Duty Limiting Condition forms.
  • Initiate, write and dictate medical summaries for medical evaluation boards providing telephone consultation with primary care managers regarding management
