Your Specific Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for conducting Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) diagnostic (antibody detection), viral load testing and Genotyping on a statewide basis. The position is located in the Retrovirology Unit of the Bureau of Public Health Laboratories, Jacksonville.
Incumbent will be the lead investigator when routine & emergency assay or procedural evaluations are needed. The incumbent will actively seek and coordinate procurements of federal grants (RFA, RFP, etc.) that focus on HIV/HCV diagnosis and disease management enhancements. The employee will work closely with the program office during evaluations and grant procurements. The employee will be responsible for RCHS (IRB) applications, as needed.
Perform HIV antibody testing, viral load, NAAT or Genotyping on a daily basis for all providers from Florida counties. Incumbent must be able to adjust workflow and prioritize assignments successfully.
Responds to HIV diagnostic & disease management laboratory questions from administration, subordinates, other agencies or the general public. Patient specific information is subject to Department of Health security protocols.
Incumbent reviews test results and reports back to the submitter within eight (8) work hours. Quality Control/Quality Assurance data and reports are maintained as directed by the laboratory supervisor. Implement corrective actions as needed per quality assurance plans.
On a regular basis, participates in training to update technology. Participates in cross training assignments within the Retrovirology Unit.
Perform related duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of terminology, principles and techniques used in analysis and testing.
Knowledge of procedures, techniques & equipment used in lab testing and analysis.
Skill in the use of lab equipment.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications:
Minimum - Associate degree, be eligible to obtain a Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Florida Clinical Laboratory Technician, or Public Health Technician License in Serology or Microbiology.
Preferred - Hold a Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Florida Clinical Laboratory Technician, or Public Health Technician License in Serology or Microbiology.
