Post Baccalaureate Fellowship - Toddler Center (25-26)Job Summary:
The Post Baccalaureate Fellowship program is a research and career development opportunity for graduating seniors. The Fellowship is a one-year program (with the possibility of renewal) consisting of various placements that allow for the development of professional career skills, on-going technical and workplace learning, and an opportunity to apply subject matter expertise to research, teaching, new technologies, digital scholarship, etc. All fellows engage together as part of a cohort in on-going professional development and learning from Beyond Barnard in collaboration with the Office of Human Resources. Reporting to a faculty director, fellowships are full time paid appointments with health benefits. The fellowship will include paid holiday and vacation days. Fellows will be paid a stipend of $45,000 per annum.ā Priority will be given to a Barnard or Columbia graduate who has completed BC PSY 3465-66 seminar in toddler development within the past two years.
Under the direction of the Director of the Barnard College Center for Toddler Development, and working closely with other Toddler Center staff, the fellow will be responsible for the day to day research activities of several research projects at the Toddler Center, as well as implement new projects and work on manuscript preparation of research studies for publication. Research fellow will work with toddler seminar students on research and observation. The research fellow will also be part of the teaching team in the Toddler Center classroom.
Job Description:
1. Working with the Center Director, fellow will coordinate on-going activities of current research studies, including:
- Manage data collection, including development and implementation of research protocols and scheduling of research visits
- Plan timelines for research tasks in order to implement aspects of the
- research in workable and timely fashion, as approved by the Director
- Coordinate development and implementation of technology and protocols for studies
- Keep human subjects protocols up to date; start new IRB as needed
- Coordinate and work with with researchers from Columbia Tottenham Developmental Affective Neuroscience lab
2. Assist in training and supervising day-to-day activities of research students and research assistants, including undergraduates, research fellows, summer research assistants in all aspects of research projects
3. Work on the first draft of research manuscripts and conference presentations in conjunction with Director; work with Director on write ups for publication.
4. Assist in the Toddler Center classroom with the teaching team, including:
- Helping to develop and carry out individualized plans for toddlers to support their development
- Working directly with toddlers as part of the teaching team; implementing emotionally and play based curriculum.
- Participating in briefing and debriefing with the teaching team
- Assisting with observational notetaking and photo documentation
- Assisting in classroom duties including set up, clean up, and classroom maintenance
5. Work with seminar students on aspects of research and child observation:
- Guide students in writing observations of children, including assisting Director in teaching observation and feedback to students
- Assist Director in developing and guiding seminar students in seminar research projects
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

- Ability to work well with college students; to work as team member as well as independently
- Knowledge of Excel and willingness to learn new software, including Survey Monkey, Google Forms
- Desire to learn technology used in research
- Ability to work well with young children
- Desire to learn and grow in understanding of toddler social and emotional development and early development research methods
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.A., in psychology or related field
- Interest in developmental research and early childhood development
- Minimum 1 year of research experience, preferably in child related area
- Experience and interest in working with young children
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of yearlong seminar in Toddler Development (BC PSY 3465-66) within past two years
- Psychology major or other relevan
