THE CHALLENGE
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Network Administrator I to join our IT Infrastructure team. This role will support the design, implementation and maintenance of enterprise network systems, including LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, VPN, and wireless technologies. The ideal candidate will work closely with senior network administrators and other IT staff to ensure reliable and secure network operations for all IT and OT environments at approximately 60 locations. We are a growing organization with a high rate of change, and this role requires someone adaptable and able to adjust to new technologies, equipment and processes.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in planning, configuring, deploying and troubleshooting enterprise networks and devices (routers, switches, access points, etc.).
- Plan, deploy and troubleshoot WAN circuits utilizing multiple carriers and various underlying technologies (fiber, T-1, microwave, etc.).
- Support SD-WAN and VPN connectivity across distributed locations.
- Collaborate with the Remote Operations Center, Systems Administration and Service Desk teams to resolve escalated network-related issues.
- Document network configurations, diagrams and change logs.
- Participate in network upgrades, migrations and patching activities.
- Integration or separation of networks due to mergers and acquisitions.
- Maintain inventory of network hardware and software/support licenses.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Monitor network performance and respond to alerts and outages.
- Provide on-call support as needed for critical network incidents.
THE PROFILE TO SUCCEED
- 1-3+ years of professional experience in a network administration role or another role with significant network responsibilities.
- Preferred experience and qualifications:
- Understanding of the OSI model and associated layers of network communication
- Understanding of TCP/IP and Internet communication
- Experience with Layer 2 technologies including STP, VLANs, trunking and LACP
- Solid understanding of DNS, DHCP, subnetting, NAT, ARP and VPN
- Familiarity with 802.1X and RADIUS
- Familiarity with IANA-reserved private IP address spaces
- Experience configuring enterprise switches in a production environment
- Basic understanding of routing protocols, primarily BGP
- Experience configuring wireless networks and access points
- Willingness to perform occasional onsite travel to remote locations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Able to effectively track and prioritize multiple tasks
- Highly effective team collaborator
- Additional qualities that could make you stand out:
- Power generation industry experience
- Network certifications (Network+, CCNA, etc.)
- Experience with OT/ICS systems and networks
- Experience integrating environments during M&A activities
- Experience with Cisco, Ubiquiti UniFi or Hirschmann network equipment
