Clinical Assistant Professor - Applied Statistics for Social Science Research

New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development invites applications for a continuing contract (non-tenure track) Clinical Assistant Professor position in the Applied Statistics for Social Science Research (A3SR) program, beginning on September 1, 2025. The appointed faculty member will be a member of the Department of Applied Statistics, Social Science, and Humanities (ASH). The applied statistics unit within ASH offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, and focuses on the development and application of statistical and computational methods to address critical policy issues across the social, behavioral, and health sciences.

Responsibilites: The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher, advisor, and mentor to graduate and undergraduate students; participate in program and curricular development; and serve on program, department, School, and University committees. Clinical Faculty may also engage in scholarly work or creative production. The teaching load for this position is six (6) 3-point to 4-point courses, or their equivalent: typically three (3) each semester, Spring and Fall. Course load may be adjusted for administrative and related/equivalent duties.

NYU's dynamic Global Network University includes NYU Abu Dhabi, NYU Shanghai, and international programs and academic centers around the world. NYU Steinhardt faculty may have the opportunity to engage in teaching at these global sites.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000. This pay range represents base pay only (for 9 months) and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

Qualifications

Candidates will have received a graduate degree in statistics or a related field (e.g., biostatistics, mathematics, economics, computer science, political science, psychology) before the position start date, and must have the demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in applied statistics. Ideally, candidates would also have previous experience: (1) teaching introductory statistics classes to a broad audience (2) teaching classes related to machine learning or other computationally-heavy methods, Bayesian statistics, or techniques for working with missing data; (3) engaging in statistical consulting work and training.
