About the role

Description

The School of Music at Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for an adjunct Instructor of Electronic Music for the Spring 2025 semester.

We seek a colleague to teach the course Exploded Ensemble. Exploded Ensemble is Carnegie Mellon University’s experimental music research wing. The research areas encompassed in the class include, but are not limited to: electro-acoustic music, multi-channel sound, audio-visual performance (live video, computer-controlled lighting), wearable electronics & hybrid instruments, performance of non-western and/or non-notated musics, and creation of new music. The instructor is responsible for guiding students through experiments, prototyping, and workshops with performance systems, developing new works, and organizing a public performance event at the end of the semester.

 

The qualified candidate will have developed innovative pedagogies that blend theory with practice, scholarship, creative work, and performance.



Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a Masters of Ph.D. in creative technology, computer music, sound art, or other relevant fields. Alternatively, sufficient professional experience in teaching and creative technology practice could also be considered favorably.
