Impact

As a Staff Engineer on the Catalog Engineering team, you will play a crucial role in shaping Shipt's product catalog. Every day, you'll collaborate with a talented team of 5-6 engineers to design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain the mission-critical software that powers our product catalog.
You'll leverage cutting-edge technologies like Golang, Kafka , Terraform, Postgres , snowflake and more to ensure our catalog is secure, scalable, and performs flawlessly under high demand.
Staff Engineer will be a key driver of the catalog engineering success, impacting customer experience, operational efficiency, revenue generation, enabling data driven decisions , fostering innovation and scalability and overall business growth.

What You’ll Need to Be Successful

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience

• 7+ Years of Software Development Experience

• Proficiency in Go, Java, Python, Ruby or related language

• Good understanding of data structures and algorithms

• Proficiency in SQL 

• Proficiency with REST APIs

• Proficiency with Kafka or similar message queuing technologies/strategies

• Demonstrated ability designing and interacting with complex persisted data models

• Able to both identify and improve poor performing code or database queries

• Thrives on engaging directly with business partners to build an in-depth understanding of business needs and deliver innovative solutions.

• Empathic and enjoys learning from and mentoring other engineers

• Strong sense of ownership and ability to execute a project to completion

Work Arrangement

Shipt considers candidates located near a Shipt office or workspace in Birmingham, San Francisco, or Minneapolis to be hybrid, which means that they have the flexibility to work from home (with leader approval) or at a Shipt office in order to facilitate the ability to innovate, collaborate, and spark team connections. In-office expectations will vary by role and leader.  Certain roles may require in-office presence on a full-time basis.
