Kezar Life Sciences (NASDAQ: KZR), a clinical-stage biotechnology sciences company located in South San Francisco, is seeking a Manager/Senior Manager, Accounting. The Manager/Senior Manager, Accounting will report to the Vice President, Corporate Controller and have accountability for maintaining the daily operations of the accounting functions including general ledger responsibilities, accounts payable as well as other related activities. The Manager/Senior Manager, Accounting will manage various GL accounts reconciliations and the month-end close process. This individual works closely with other members of the Finance Team, operations and external auditors. The expectation is to be onsite at our South San Francisco location at least 3 days per week.
Kezar is focused on small molecule drug discovery and development to target immune-mediated diseases and cancer. Kezar’s lead product candidate, zetomipzomib, is being evaluated in clinical trials for the treatment of lupus nephritis and autoimmune hepatitis. Kezar is also conducting an oncology clinical trial of KZR-261, the first candidate from its novel platform targeting the protein secretion pathway. This research platform has the potential to generate additional small molecule compounds with therapeutic potential in cancer and inflammation.
Key Responsibilities include:
• Manage the month-end financial close process, which includes preparing accruals, journal entries, account reconciliations and flux analyses.
• Compile supporting tie-out binder for 10-Q and 10-K review.
• Manage equity administration in partnership with equity consultants and E*Trade EEO, including the accuracy and timeliness of recording and reporting all equity award activities and stock-based compensation expense.
• Maintain and improve, as needed, the Company’s ERP system, NetSuite.
• Prepare deliverables with respect to quarter and year-end financial statements and various tax filings, including but not limited to franchise tax, use tax and property tax.
• Participate in preparation and coordination of the audit process and support special projects as requested.
• Maintaining a current knowledge base of audit industry practices and ensure best practices are always considered.
• Performing all assigned audit duties in a manner that reflects the highest professional standards.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree with around 5 years of directly related work experience in roles of ascending accounting responsibilities. Candidates at the Sr. Manager level would be expected to have significant years of additional experience. CPAs with Big 4 audit experience would be considered uniquely qualified for this role, as would candidates with experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.
• Strong accounting experience with the ability to think through unfamiliar transactions and suggest appropriate solutions.
• Detail-oriented and able to work well under pressure and accustomed to project work with tight deadlines.
• Team-oriented, collaborative, diplomatic and flexible.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively across regional and/or functional lines.
• Excellent project management skills with the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position as Manager, at our South San Francisco, CA corporate office is $138,000 - $150,000. The salary for this position at the Senior Manager level is $175,000 - $185,000. Factors such as academic credentials and relevant experience will influence the actual salary offered.
