Position Summary:
The Youth Development & Early Learning Coordinator provides strategic support and leadership for the Youth Development and Early Learning Programs at the Withnell Family YMCA. This role entails autonomous problem-solving, supervision of part-time staff, assisting in program coordination, and the identification of industry trends and best practices. As a cornerstone of our goal to deliver high-quality youth experiences encompassing recreation, sports instruction, creative expression, and academic enrichment, the YMCA provides comprehensive out-of-school time programming for school-aged children during the academic year and expanded summer activities for youth aged 5-12. Early Learning initiatives include the Preschool and Play & Learn programs at the Salem YMCA, serving children ages 3-5 in preschool, and expanding services for younger children in Play & Learn. The Coordinator collaborates closely with the Youth Development Multisite Director and reports directly to the Director of Youth Development and Early Learning. Standard hours of work vary by program season and may include occasional evenings and weekends.

Requirements
Entry Requirements:
- BA/BS with two (2) years of related experience or combination of related education and work experience to equal six (6) years.
- CPR and First Aid Certified, or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of employment.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check
- Driver's License and reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications:
- BA/BS in Early Education, Elementary Education, Child Psychology, Special Education, Family Social Science, Youth Studies, or a related field
- Self-motivated with adaptability, sound judgment, and initiative; committed to service excellence
- Innovative with a demonstrated ability to successfully implement new ideas and processes within a collaborative team environment
- Demonstrated strong critical thinking and effective decision-making skills in dynamic youth-centered settings
- Experience working with children and families in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Previous experience supervising part-time staff
- Knowledgeable about licensing regulations
- Detail-oriented with a proficiency in maintaining meticulous and organized records
Essential Functions:
Youth Development & Early Learning Coordination (75%):
- Oversee critical processes to address the medical and behavioral needs of youth participants, ensuring consistent communication with parents and staff, meticulous record-keeping, research into industry trends and best practices, and staff training in regard to this area of responsibility.
- Lead the recruitment, selection, training, and assist in scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of approximately 40-50 part-time staff members, including:
- Recruitment
- Conducting interview procedures
- Assisting in the development and implementation of training schedules,
- Assisting in monitoring staff progress and productivity
- Training new hires on organizational philosophy and procedures
- Establishing effective lines of communication
- Providing regular feedback to staff and Youth Development and Early Learning leadership
- Assisting in updating and maintaining program staff manuals
- Coaching, evaluating, and, when necessary, addressing disciplinary matters
- Assist in researching, developing, and overseeing partnerships and planning for field trips, community projects, engagement initiatives, and family events.
