Director, Full Stack Engineering

Position Description: 

Oversees the full software development lifecycle for high-quality engineering products. Acts as a lead contributor on application design and development. Deploys and utilizes open-source tools, utilities and applications. Works in a highly collaborative, ever-evolving DevOps environment. Designs and develops responsive web application components and modules, using client-side technologies -- Angular, Bootstrap, HTML/CSS, Shell Scripting, and messaging frameworks -- MQ, Service Oriented/Micro-service Architectures, OpenStack, and Relational Databases (PostgreSQL). Works with 10-factor Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), 12-factor applications, and tests environments/frameworks -- Unit, Integration, and Test Driven Development (TDD). Develops software applications with programming languages -- Python, Go, JavaScript, AWS, RESTful services, Ruby, MVC Jenkins CI/CD, Configuration Automation Chef, and Ansible.  

Primary Responsibilities: 

• Mentors software developers on best practices in the areas of software development, continuous integration and delivery, and infrastructure automation.  

• Ensures overall code quality and application stability through code reviews.  

• Identifies potential development discrepancies and recommends or implements modifications to the codes developed by software developers while staying within the original project scope.  

• Recommends systems and technology to promote widespread collaboration and a spirit of innovation, including open source.  

• Builds and promotes a DevOps culture within the company.  

• Collaborates with leadership, development and product ownership teams to define technical requirements to ensure rapid delivery of features and functionality.  

• Develops multiple programming languages and environments and determines the most appropriate set of technologies for a given task.  

• Evaluates application performance and stability and provides input for continuous improvement of development and deployment processes.  

• Oversees the design, installation, implementation, operation, maintenance, and support of Fidelity’s internal cloud platform.  

• Provides leadership, technical supervision, and expertise to multiple teams in broad technical areas on complex organization-wide projects. 

• Determines technical approaches at a strategic level for the business unit. 

Education and Experience: 

Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Information Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field and six (6) years of experience as a Director, Full Stack Engineering (or closely related occupation) designing and developing full stack engineering solutions within a financial services environment.  

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Information Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field and four (4) years of experience as a Director, Full Stack Engineering (or closely related occupation) designing and developing full stack engineering solutions within a financial services environment.
