Our season kicks off in April and runs through November, with the possibility of extending into December. As a seasonal team member, you’ll enjoy winters off to travel, hunt, fish, or pursue the activities you love—while still keeping your benefits all year long.

This position is responsible to safely control the movement of vehicular traffic through construction projects. Will also complete various laborer and small equipment operation tasks to produce quality asphalt paving or concrete projects.

The typical schedule is Monday - Friday 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM with an occasional Saturday. Hours may vary based on weather and customer demand.

COMPENSATION:

$22.00 per hour

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES (summary of components that make up the job) An asterisk (*) indicates essential job functions that cannot be modified in order to fulfill the job requirements.

  1. Safely control movement of motoring public through construction site.
  2. Discusses traffic routing plans and type of location of control points with supervisor.
  3. Directs movement of traffic through site, using sign, hand and flag signals.
  4. Warning construction workers when approaching vehicles fail to heed signals to prevent accident and injury to workers.
  5. Inform drivers of detour routes through construction sites.
  6. Records license number of traffic control violation for police.
  7. May give hand marker to last driver in line up of one-way traffic for flagger at opposite end of site, signaling clearance for reverse flow of traffic.
  8. Monitor and discuss traffic flow problems with work crew and supervisor
  9. Measures distance from grade stakes, drive stakes & stretch tight line.
  10. Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
  11. Levels earth using pick or shovel (Aggregate or asphalt)
  12. Levels blacktop using lute.
  13. Raise manhole covers
  14. Performs laborer duties as needed such as below.
  15. May operate small, powered hand tools
  16. May operate small equipment including bobcat, tractor, or roller or move from one site to another.
  17. Safely and properly perform maintenance (lubricating, fueling and cleaning) and operate small equipment, such as bobcat, tractor, jackhammer, roller, pickup truck, air compressor, tractor/packer, steel drum or rubber tire roller
  18. Shovel excess material away from crushers, screen or wash plant unit as needed.
  19. Remove road joints
  20. Hook and unhook small trailer to pick-up
  21. Fill sandbags
  22. Change bag house bags
  23. Ensure OSHA, safety and environmental regulation compliance.
  24. Performs other duties assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (minimum educational, experience, or other relevant job requirements)

As a successful Laborer you will have

  1. General education, grammar and arithmetic, GED or high school diploma or equivalent
  2. Ability to provide and maintain proper licensure and acceptable driving record.
  3. Equipment maintenance and operation.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS (preferred requirements i.e. certifications, software use, etc.)

  1. Ability to work flexible shifts, including overtime and Saturdays as needed.  
  2. Able to operate skid steer for cleanup of materials
  3. Able to drive truck/skid steer trailer combination to transport skid steers and other equipment and materials and from site to site (CDL license)
