Position Summary
Responsible for maintaining compliance with the Mandatory Minimum Standards Required, within their sphere of influence. This may or may not include compliance with any air permits, wastewater permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as requirements.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensures compliance with all Huber safety, health and environmental policies and governmental regulations through Human Resources and the EH&S Manager, as well as ensures compliance activities are conducted (all inspection, measurements, monitoring, recording, recordkeeping, reporting, and training).
- Proactively plans, coordinates and monitors shift priorities based on real-time operating condition while managing the activities of the department to provide a sufficient and timely supply of limestone feedstock and reserves.
- Manages the raw material stockpiles. Maintains traceability of ore from barge to mills. Segregates different ores. Ensures procedures are adequate and followed consistently with FDA & ISO requirements.
- Develops and recommends changes in schedules, employee requirements, and training to insure the most efficient and productive mining and crushing operations possible.
- Works with the Mine Manager to balance the mine production with the milling and screening demands of the production facilities.
- Coordinates the schedule of the mining and crushing operations with the Maintenance Department to provide the most effective maintenance and the least amount of downtime.
- Strives to improve the work force in the department by providing the training, the positive attitude, the safety awareness, the employee involvement, the flexibility, and the opportunity for growth through personal example, demonstration, group meetings, and classroom discussion.
- Develops short- term mining plans for weekly production to meet the monthly production goals for the Quincy operation and follows and modifies said plan as conditions dictate.
- Consistently provides uniformly good quality limestone by working with laboratory data analysis and modifying the mining parameters accordingly.
- Maintains a good working relationship with all the agencies involved in underground operations such as M.S.H.A. and the State of Illinois by dealing with the inspectors in a respectful and professional manner.
- Keeps the Plant Manager fully informed as to the operation of the department through daily oral communication, written reports as necessary and formal monthly reports.
- Manages storage of Quincy and imported stone at the Quincy mining operation such as ventilation, vibration monitoring, use of explosives, noise control, dewatering, etc. Provides assistance in the areas to other division facilities as necessary.
- Reviews ground control procedures with staff on a quarterly basis.
- May perform other duties as needed.
Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
- Minimum of 10 years Miner VI experience.
- At minimum be able to obtain ATF employee possessor license within 6-months of accepting role. Obtaining Responsible Person Status, a plus.
- Strong understanding of production mining and process.
- A good understanding of MSHA regulations.
- Must have good overall communication skills with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Must be able to frequently lift and move 50 lbs occasionally, must be able to ascend and descend ladders, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and crawl. Must be able to work in a dusty environment where temperatures vary from extremely hot to cold, work in humidity and around various chemicals.
