Data Scientist Intern - Product and Deployment
CartesianAbout the role
Introduction
At Cartesian, we’re on a mission to map the physical world at unprecedented scale and precision through cutting-edge wireless signal processing and AI. We are developing a first-of-its-kind product to solve the challenge of indoor positioning and inventory management for retailers and logistics operators.
Our founders are an MIT engineering professor and alum who invented the award-winning patented technologies underlying Cartesian. Since spinning out in 2023, our team has built and launched our product with major enterprise customers. We are bootstrapped, funded by the highly selective SBIR Award from the US National Science Foundation and by customer revenue.
By joining Cartesian as we transition to a scalable product, you’ll lead the data collection, hypothesis testing, and synthesis of insights into product development and deployment recommendations for our first product. You’ll also be part of a collaborative and intellectually-stimulating work environment in Kendall Square/Cambridge, next to MIT and the Charles River.
This role can be adapted to either part-time or full-time work.
Opportunity
Intern at a seed-stage MIT startup, working closely with the head of operations, founders, engineering team, and early customers.
Surface and synthesize deep insights and unexpected patterns as we deploy our product to more customers.
Contribute to the culture of a growing team in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
Responsibilities
Gather and process product performance data from test sites and deployments.
Analyze usage patterns, success and failure cases, and customer behavior to identify trends, pain points, and areas for optimization.
Formulate and test data-driven hypotheses about product performance, user behavior, and algorithm effectiveness.
Synthesize findings and share recommendations with the engineering and leadership teams.
Qualifications
Currently pursuing a PhD/MS/BS degree in computer science, data science, or equivalent field.
Research or work experience in applied data science.
You crave measurable impact, and want to deliver this through the rapid translation of data insights into action.
You value hard work and thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
Nice to have
Past experience in an early-stage startup or consulting
