Position Overview
Case Western Reserve University School of Law invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin July 1, 2027 to teach courses on environmental, administrative, legislation and regulation, or property law. We seek candidates with distinguished academic records, demonstrated interest in producing and/or a record of scholarship (a substantial draft of an article will be considered), and demonstrated excellence in teaching. A strong legal research and writing background is essential. A strong legal research and writing background is essential.
The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to play a significant role in supporting the work of the Coleman P. Burke Center for Environmental Law, including program development, student mentorship, and other Center-related activities.
Primary Responsibilities
Teaching: Teach courses each semester in environmental law or environmental related topics, administrative law, legislation and regulation, or property law, according to curricular needs.
Student engagement: Provide one-on-one mentorship to students, oversee and grade multiple student projects each semester.
Scholarship: Develop and maintain an independent research and writing agenda that advances scholarship in your field(s) of expertise.
Service: Collaborate with the Center Director to support the mission and activities of the Coleman P. Burke Center for Environmental Law, including organizing programming, supervising fellows, and expanding opportunities for students interested in environmental law.
In compliance with the City of Cleveland’s Pay Transparency Ordinance (effective
October 27, 2025), the annual starting base salary range for this position is from $130,000 - $145,000. CWRU considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.

Demonstrated expertise or scholarly interest in at least two of the following areas: environmental law, administrative law, legislation and regulation, or property law.

Commitment to excellence in teaching, mentoring, and scholarly research.

Prior law school teaching experience is preferred but not required. Candidates should be committed to excellence in teaching proficiency.
