The Platform Delivery and Operations team, which is part of the Artificial Intelligence, Data, and Advanced Analytics organization, provides a comprehensive suite of integrated platform technologies that are core components of Pfizer’s data and analytics ecosystem.
These platforms are used by teams across Pfizer to harness the potential of big data, machine learning, interactive analytics, and AI – from scientific/clinical to commercial to operations across all Pfizer geographies.
One of these key platform technologies is the Snowflake Data Cloud. Snowflake is a Software as a Service cloud data warehousing platform. Snowflake supports the data for Pfizer applications in Commercial, Manufacturing, HR, Finance, Master Data Management, Real World Data and many others. The platform leverages the infrastructure and functionality of the cloud provider to create a very scalable, flexible, and cost-effective platform for Pfizer solutions.
In this role, you will act as a platform architect and engineer to create and maintain a user friendly, dependable, and optimized environment for application developers and users.
You will work with:
- Application developers – helping them build and optimize their applications using Snowflake’s capabilities and solution patterns
- Snowflake architects and support engineers who will help you enhance our implementation of the platform
- Resources from other software vendors (ETL, Reporting, Cataloging) who connect to Snowflake
- Application users
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Advise teams on the use of unique Snowflake features as part of their application architecture.
Help new Snowflake applications, or existing applications migrating to Snowflake, with the most effective solution patterns recommended for a Snowflake implementation.
Partner with the Snowflake Platform team to support Snowflake Release Management by analyzing scope of new releases and assessing potential impact on environment.
Help in building extensions to the Snowflake environment to make it easier to use and support.
Mentor junior engineers to influence best practices.
Enhance usage monitoring with dashboards and monitoring tools and use this information to help Snowflake users optimize their warehouse usage and SQL queries.
Collaborate with vendors and internal engineering teams on evaluating new technologies and their supportability.
Collaborate with engineering and support teams on platform standards, lifecycle management, change governance, and continuous improvement efforts.
Collaborate with enterprise architecture to drive platform adoption and shape data strategy at Pfizer.
Directly engage and communicate with technical stakeholders on solution development and optimization.
Document knowledge in the form of incident notes, technical articles, and contributions to knowledge bases within specific areas of expertise.
Maintain key informational content, drive platform adoption, and champion a strong user community.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
BA/BS preferably in in computer science or related discipline with at least 4 years of experience or MBA/MS with at least 2 years of experience or PhD/JD with any years of experience or associate's degree with at least 8 years of experience or high School Diploma (or Equivalent) with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
Strong knowledge of the Snowflake Data Cloud including features such as Dynamic Tables, Snowpipe Streaming, Snowpark/Container Services, Hybrid Tables, Data Sharing, Replication, Iceberg, Openflow, etc.
Strong SQL skills tailored to Snowflake, including window functions, semi-structured data handling (e.g., JSON, XML), UDFs, and time travel, and knowledge of query optimization techniques, e.g., clustering keys, materialized views, and caching strategies to improve performance.
Python skills and mastery of working with and reading code.
Knowledge of Snowflake access methods (OAuth., PAT, local accounts, ODBC, JDBC) and security features (roles, policies, masking) for access/security troubleshooting.
Experience with Snowflake monitoring tools/views.
Hands-on experience with utilizing DevOps, CI/CD tools
Experience with Cloud Platforms: AWS, Azure, GCP.
