Derivative Sales, Trading & Origination is a role, within the Shell Trading & Supply (T&S) Price Risk Management (PRM) team, that brings together derivative sales (price risk marketing to both internal and external customers) with a strategic focus on developing portfolio deals with innovative pricing solutions, such as structured trades, embedded physical deals and other bundled offerings (e.g. oil and emissions bundles, risk-managed finance packages for supply and offtake, additional contract optionality).
The Derivative Sales, Trading & Origination role will be based in Rotterdam and will work closely with the Derivatives and Options team (and across T&S), who provide the market-making service to cover the risks generated from the trades.
What’s the role?
The Derivative Sales, Trading & Origination candidate is expected to bring in flow volume with the right reward and risk profile to the Shell Trading & Supply Commodity Derivatives Trading team. To do the job well, the Derivative Sales, Trading & Origination candidate needs to have a sound market knowledge base and strong relationship skills to develop value propositions relevant for the counterparty, whilst ensuring efficient management of Shell’s credit and capital resources. Given the breadth of counterparties, their geographies, wide-ranging types of transactions and the volatility of the oil and product(s) market(s), we expect a growing demand for bespoke risk managed structured products.
As a price risk management subject-matter-expert, the Derivative Sales, Trading & Originator is expected to demonstrate strong leadership especially in empowering colleagues in identifying and creating exposures, coming up with ingenious ways of mitigating / monetising the risks.
The Derivative Sales, Trading & Origination role will also play a key role in the Groups’ Digital Strategy to develop and implement techniques to support T&S and Downstream to capture more extrinsic value for and across its physical businesses.
The Derivative Sales, Trading & Origination candidate will be expected to:
- Build productive and strong relationships with both internal and external customers; leverage contact network(s) to originate new business opportunities.
- Refine and implement sales/marketing strategy to grow revenue/margins in European Derivatives.
- Be professionally articulate and market innovative risk management solutions, effectively communicating the merits and risks of the designed solution, while taking due account of all financial risks - market, credit, cash flow, regulations and reputation.
- Work closely with T&S and other Downstream businesses, to improve existing deal flows and unlock new opportunities across the interfaces.
- Actively work across a wider deal team community, collaborating with Traders, Business Development teams, M&A, Finance, Legal, Technical Accounting, Contracts, Credit, Tax and Back Office.
- Share information/intelligence across the Shell Trading Network.
- Integrate DS-X (an online platform developed by the Derivatives’ team to enable the Shell Group to view live forward prices and to click and trade derivatives in real time across multiple commodities) solutions with Products Trading and Shell Energy businesses to standardize processes and reduce T&S development costs, where possible.
- Work in close partnership with control functions such as Legal, Compliance, Market and Credit Risk, Audit, Finance to ensure appropriate governance and control infrastructure.
- Build a culture of responsible finance, good governance and supervision, expense discipline and ethics.
All activities to be carried out within the control and compliance framework of Shell Trading & Supply.
What we need from you?
We are keen to hear from candidates with significant years of professional experience in OTC derivative external negotiations and experience in a client-facing role; broad client relationships preferred.
