A Day in the Life

In this role as a Reliability Engineering Manager, you will have responsibility for leading a technical engineering team in support of Medtronic Cardiac Ablation Solutions devices, such as cardiac ablation catheters and associated instrumentation. This role will have a post-market reliability focus, such as driving sustaining engineering activities and compliance related projects, monitoring post-market surveillance data sources, assessing product risk, and supporting operations activities related to released product. This role may also lead engineers supporting new product development and/or significant changes to market released devices. The Reliability Manager provides strong technical guidance and leadership to his/her team in following Design Controls, Product and Process Change and other relevant quality system procedures. The manager will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, prioritization skills and knowledge of best practices to guide the team on issues related to the design, operations and post market support of new products.

CARDIAC ABLATION SOLUTIONS provides a broad suite of electrophysiology solutions intended to disrupt and lead the market in cardiac mapping and ablation technologies for arrhythmia management. These clinical and economical solutions will enable clinicians to treat patients safer, faster and easier, and with more predictable procedure times and outcomes.

This role will require less than 10% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.

The Reliability Engineering Manager builds a functional team by focusing on developing trust, gaining commitment of the team members who are accountable to each other and ultimately achieving results. Assignments may include, but are not limited to:

  • Contributes to all aspects of the company's design and development, as well as post-market support, of new or existing medical device products.
  • Implement and maintain technical quality assurance and control systems or reliability systems and standards pertaining to materials, techniques, or company products.
  • Monitors documentation maintenance throughout all phases of research, development, and released product.
  • Receives assignments in task and objective oriented terms; provides tactical and / or operational leadership and coaching.
  • Establishes operational plans and implements policies and strategies; decisions impact program schedules, customer satisfaction levels, or allocation of time, material resources, expenditures and funds.
  • Mentor, develop and coach staff on meeting/exceeding performance expectations and defined objectives, ensuring the prioritization of strategic and department level initiatives. Define performance goals and targets, conduct performance reviews and staff 1:1s to guide performance management and employee development efforts and manage toward departmental goals, planning staff requirements and budgets to support current and future business priorities.
  • Provides guidance and coaching in risk management and reliability.
  • Develops and maintains partnership with manufacturing sites, providing guidance on the product and process changes as well as design and manufacturing transfers.
  • Oversees risk analysis activities for the purposes of product containment recommendation (for example Product Hold Order or Field Corrective Action)
  • Oversees evaluation of post-market surveillance feedback to assess product performance in comparison to predictions; drives decisive action in response to observed trends.

Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)( 4)(iii)(A) and minimum of 5 years relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years prior relevant experience.
