Sr. Drive System Analysis Engineer
SupernalAbout the role
Supernal is at the forefront of creating emerging mobility solutions that will foster the development of human-centered cities. We are designing a completely new electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft tailored to the mobility needs of future cities. This allows passengers a seamless intermodal journey that safely transports them to their final destination. We fuse research in autonomy, robotics, aviation and services to define a new category of mobility for the world’s communities. We believe in creative thinking and collaboration to help build a better mobility experience for everyone, improving people’s ability to move – whether for work or play.
What we do:
The Sr. Drive System Analysis Engineer is responsible for analysis of complex mechanical components including gears, housings, bearings, clutches, shafts and the associated cooling and lubrication systems, and will interact extensively with Dynamicists, Test & Evaluation, Materials and Process engineers, the Drive System Design team, and the Airframe team.
This position will be required to work on-site 5 days a week.
What you can do:
- Perform hand calculations and finite element analysis of conceptual and preliminary drive system designs at the detail and assembly levels, and iterate with Drive System Design Engineers to size components appropriately for static and fatigue loads
- Investigate and compare design factors such as materials, performance, weight, and stiffness & strength requirements
- Perform diverse and sophisticated product development by applying engineering principles and developing new or unique stress analysis tools/methods as required
- Analysis of damage limits and tolerances for various drive system structural components
- Document stress analysis for safety of test and safety of flight reviews
- Write test plans for coupon and sub-component testing and assist with execution of these tests
- Complete the applicable reports and develop analysis packages for review and release
- Evaluate full-scale system testing data during ground testing, flight test, and civil certification to validate designs and analysis
