Position Summary

The Communications Director serves as the strategic leader responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the Fulton County Board of Health's internal and external communications, public information, media relations, branding, marketing, digital communications, and community outreach initiatives. Reporting to the Deputy District Health Director, this position provides executive-level leadership for the agency's Communications Division and Community Outreach Division.

The Communications Director serves as the agency's principal communications advisor and works closely with the District Health Director, Deputy District Health Director, executive leadership, and program leadership during routine operations, public health initiatives, and emergency response activities. The position is responsible for strengthening public trust, developing information and campaigns to influence health behavior, and advancing FCBOH's mission through effective communication and meaningful community engagement.

Strategic Communications
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive communications strategy supporting the FCBOH Strategic Plan.
  • Develop communication campaigns aligned with the agency’s population health priorities as defined in the strategic plan and community health improvement plan.
  • Advise executive leadership on communications, branding, public messaging, and reputation management.
  • Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all agency communications.
  • Monitor communication effectiveness using analytics, community feedback, and performance metrics.
Media Relations
  • Provide executive oversight of the Media Division, including direct supervision of the Media Director.
  • Monitor and assure positive relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
  • Lead crisis and risk communication planning and implementation.
Community Outreach
  • Provide executive oversight of the Community Outreach Division, including direct supervision of the Community Outreach Director.
  • Develop strategies to increase community participation in public health initiatives.
  • Foster collaborative partnerships with community-based organizations, schools, businesses, faith communities, and neighborhood associations.
  • Coordinate outreach campaigns, public meetings, town halls, community forums, and stakeholder engagement activities.
Public Information & Digital Communications
  • Direct dissemination of accurate public health information.
  • Oversee website content and digital communications.
  • Manage social media strategy and evaluate communication analytics.
Crisis and Emergency Communications
  • Lead communication planning and coordination during public health emergencies.
  • Serve within the Incident Command Structure as assigned, including Public Information Officer responsibilities when designated.
  • Coordinate emergency messaging with partner agencies.
