Job Title:   Spiritual Life Staff - JH Focus 

Job Status:   Substantially Full-Time, 11 Months

Exempt Status: Exempt

Department:   Spiritual Life

Reports to:    Spiritual Life Director

Job Summary 

TKA is a Christ-centered school grounded in a Biblical worldview, and we are looking for a Spiritual Life Staff member who loves working with Junior High students, is a follower of Jesus Christ, and is dedicated to the school’s Christ-centered mission. The primary responsibility of this position is to help the Spiritual Life team carry out its ministry in equipping and encouraging faculty, staff, and students to develop and maintain Christ-centered servant leadership and enduring relationships with the Lord and with one another. This position will have a strong JH focus. 

Requirements

Essential Job Functions

Regular Activities

  • Oversee and lead weekly Junior High Chapel
  • Train and lead chapel leadership and worship teams 
  • Counsel and disciple students on an ongoing basis
  • Oversee calendar, communications, and clerical responsibilities
  • Provide support in executing the school’s home group program
  • Attend staff devotions daily and lead staff devotions quarterly
  • Provide Pastoral care to TKA staff and faculty
  • Mentor a group of students by meeting daily as part of the school’s home group program

Retreats, Trips, Meetings and Events

  • Plan, prepare, program, and attend Junior High Fall retreat (offsite, overnight)
  • Assist the Spiritual Life team in planning, preparing, and programming other events
  • Attend an annual service trip (offsite, overnight)
  • Attend grade level and department meetings per the school calendar
  • Meet with the Spiritual Life team weekly
  • Attendance at Spiritual Life events and activities (onsite and offsite) is required

Teaching Assignments

  • Teach up to 2 Discipleship classes
  • Develop a curriculum map for each course taught where learning objectives are aligned with California State Standards and the school’s Expected Student Learning Results
  • Prepare detailed lesson plans 
  • Use a variety of teaching methodologies to create an engaging and safe classroom setting where all students are held to high expectations 
  • Incorporate technology in meaningful ways into instruction and learning
  • Grade all assignments, tests, quizzes, and projects in a timely manner, using the grading scale provided by the school
  • Keep an accurate record of all grades for each student, timely submitting them to the Registrar 
  • Record homework for the day/week on the school portal 
  • Keep an accurate record of all attendance and tardies for each student
  • Maintain discipline in the classroom to ensure maximum learning
  • Provide a healthy and neat classroom that promotes a good learning and working environment
  • Always keep an emergency lesson plan and current substitute folder for unexpected absences
  • Communicate with parents regarding their student’s academic or behavioral status in the class
  • Return phone calls and emails within one business day
  • Keep an accurate record of all communications with parents
  • Advise the Principal as soon as plans to be away from the classroom are being considered

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred (Bible, Counseling or similar subject)
  • 3+ Youth ministry experience required
  • Previous teaching or counseling experience is preferred, but not required

Skills and Abilities 

  • Strong leadership qualities and mentoring skills
  • Expertise in designing creative, engaging, and interactive worship experiences
  • Excellent skills in communicating both orally and in written form 
  • Able to work both independently and in a team setting
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example  
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Ability to learn new computer software systems
