The Medical Assistant Lead provides individualized, medical care of assigned patients in person, electronically and via telephone under the supervision of a licensed health care provider. A Medical Assistant Lead is capable of performing all aspects of a Medical Assistant role. Additionally, the Medical Assistant Lead proactively takes the initiative and serves as an informal leader with additional responsibilities related to clinic/service line/location. The Medical Assistant Lead serves as an ambassador, change agent, quality champion and mentor/resource to Medical Assistants by providing support, guidance and training as needed.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education
  • Required - High school diploma or equivalent

Work Experience
  • Required - 3 years years of experience as a medical assistant

Certifications
  • Required - Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
  • Required - Medical Assistant Certification

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Advanced Clinical knowledge
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

Job Duties
  • Supports the patient and provider throughout the patient visit.
  • Ensures the patient and provider are prepared for the visit
  • Ensures the patient’s questions are answered prior to leaving; prepares room for next appointment
  • Provides excellent patient service through effective communication both over the phone and in person
  • Performs basic laboratory tests, administers injections, and collects specimens
  • Completes appropriate documentation including patient registration, preauthorizations or referrals as necessary
  • Performs required responsibilities based on the standard work for their department with minimal supervision with the ability, skill and knowledge to work in more than one specialty area. Surgery scheduling will also be part of this position. Maintains required advanced, clinical knowledge, technical skills, training and credentials through personal professional development
  • Maintains clinical supply inventory
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for medical assistants providing training and coaching
  • Meets the procedures of the Department of Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs, if working in an occupational health clinic
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Complies with all policies and standards
