QC Lab Manager – Decatur Milling Lab
Job Summary:
This QC Lab Manager position is responsible for managing daily and long-term activities of the Milling Central laboratory in Decatur, IL. This position ensures that all testing is conducted accurately, efficiently, safely and in compliance with written SOPs as well as plan and deploy continuous improvement opportunities for lab instrumentation, procedures, and colleagues. This position will work closely with Plant QC and the NIR team to ensure the output of reliable data, for the purpose of controlling and monitoring of processes. The QC Lab Manager reports to the Global QC Manager.
Essential Job Functions:
- Ensure that all applicable analytical tests on products are being performed accurately and efficiently
- Oversee usage of and provide support for information technology systems (i.e., TLC, Policy Tech, Sphera, GEMINI, etc.)
- Ensure training, proficiency, and development of laboratory technicians in all aspects of in-process and finished product testing, including intra and inter-lab proficiency programs
- Maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment
- Manage inventory and safety of all lab chemicals and supplies
- Ensure that all local SOPs are up to date and accurate
- Excellent communication, problem solving, and good decision making skills are required.
- Ensure compliance of all laboratory colleagues with Safety, Quality and Environmental policies and procedures.
- The ability to provide motivation to direct reports, and demonstrate leadership qualities to all plant personnel is needed.
- Escalates and communicates quality issues, as required, to QC Plant Management, Regional QFS, Technical Services or Global QC.
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Baking Science, Milling, Chemistry, Food Science or similar science field is preferred
- 5+ years of laboratory experience in a food setting preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills a must. Ability to communicate and interact with all levels of the organization, including senior management, customers, and regulatory officials as needed.
- Ability to work as a team member and independently
- Previous experience managing a team preferred
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.
If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
The pay range for this position is expected to be between:
$70,400.00 - $131,600.00
