Overview of Position:

The Modality Assistant is responsible for the coordinator of care for all patients within the Imaging Department including pre-screening and preparation instructions prior to and after patient arrival. This position is responsible for all correspondence, maintaining of files, acts as a patient liaison, receptionist, screens telephone calls within the department and compiles departmental monthly reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1.    Completes assignments or duties with 98% accuracy and within specific timeframes.
2.    Completes patient screening questionnaires pertaining to diagnostic testing, e.g. MRI, PET, and CT clearance sheets.
3.    Handles changes in work priorities and supports department functions on multiple levels.
4.    Assists in the collection of daily departmental data for various departmental reports.  Collects department related information regarding operations, budgets, personnel reports and/other activities.  
5.    Assists in the resolution of routine inquiries, educational arrangements, or other related activities to support department management and operations.   
6.    Assists modality staff in coordination of efficient and effective workflow. 
7.    Communicates effectively with patients by both listening and speaking with them and their families.
8.    Uses Central Scheduling software in development of department packets for each of the Imaging modalities that have scheduled patients.  
9.    Effectively uses functions of various software systems (HIS, RIS and PACS) to process, access and distribute imaging-related information. 
10.    Ensures file cabinets, computer and office area is locked and/or secured to prevent breach of confidentiality or unpermitted access to information
11.    Stays current with department information and changes by reading and initialing the department communications book.
12.    Maintains pleasant and professional demeanor at all times.
13.    Assist with IV starts and other duties assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
1.    High school graduate or equivalent.  
2.    IV certified or obtain certification within 6 months.
3.    Solid written and verbal communication skills.
4.    Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
5.    Ability to function independently with initiative in areas of responsibility.
