How you’ll contribute 
Dietician approves menus including modified diets, provides nutritional assessments for patients as needed, and provides counsel to patients and their families on dietary plans, food selections, preparation, and nutritional principles. The Dietician monitors the performance improvement plans of the Dietary Services department and provides input in the development and implementation of patient care plans in relation to nutritional needs.

Qualifications and requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in coursework approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA), or a post-bachelor’s certificate in dietetics.

  • State licensure or certification, if required by state law.

  • Registered Dietitian credential required.

  • Previous acute care experience preferred.

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Essential Functions: 

  • Assess patients’ nutritional status according to established standards and complete nutrition assessments within required timeframes.

  • Review medical records to determine each patient’s nutritional status and develop nutrition care plans for patients in the rehabilitation setting.

  • Honor patients’ cultural, religious, and ethnic food preferences when possible and not contraindicated.

  • Evaluate patient response to nutrition interventions and revise the nutrition care plan as needed.

  • Communicate with the interdisciplinary team regarding appropriate nutrition interventions.

  • Assist with the development, implementation, and consistent delivery of patient nutrition care programs.

  • Interact professionally with staff, patients, and family members. Provide nutrition education and counseling to patients and families as indicated.

  • Follow patient safety practices and established care procedures to reduce the risk of preventable errors.

  • Assist with facility orientation and in-service education for new employees as requested.

  • Maintain effective working relationships within the department and with other departments.

  • Complete documentation in accordance with current standards and policies, including admission documentation and updates to the interdisciplinary care plan as appropriate.

  • Conduct in-service education for hospital staff as requested.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently, remain organized, adapt
