Position Title: Parks Crew

Position Characteristics: Seasonal, part-time, no benefits. 

Weekdays, evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, holidays.

Department: Parks 

Reporting Relationships:

Position Reports To: Parks Supervisor 

Positions Directly Supervised: None

Position Purpose:

Responsible for maintaining Service Area parks and ground efficiently so as to provide a clean, safe, and comfortable atmosphere for patrons. Complete refurbishing and cleaning duties as assigned by Park Supervisor, performs regularly turf care, completes daily maintenance of all courts and athletic fields. 

Nature and Scope:

This position requires attention to detail, good physical health and strength, and the ability to work well independently. Incumbent must be able to operate all related equipment and machinery and possess good time management skills in order to successfully execute this position. 

Essential Functions and Basic Duties:

Assume responsibility for effectively and efficiently maintaining Service Area grounds and parks.

1. Inspect the turf irrigation system regularly. Check for proper operations and repairs as needed.
2. Care for turf areas regularly. Mow, edge, trim, prune, weed, spot water, and perform other duties as necessary.
3. Complete refurbishment and major cleaning duties as assigned by the Park Supervisory. 
4. Maintain ball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts daily.
5. Perform minor repairs on playground equipment.
6. Clean restrooms and pavilions daily.

Assume responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective working relations with area personnel and with management.

1. Keep management well informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
2. Assist area staff as needed.
3. Maintain a current and accurate inventory of tools and supplies.

Assume responsibility for other duties as assigned.

1. Follows established safety procedures.
2. Keeps work area clean and free of clutter.

Performance Measurements:

1. Service Area parks are safe, comfortable, and well-maintained.
2. Turf areas are cared for regularly and effectively.
3. Preventative maintenance is performed as scheduled on lawn equipment.
4. Management is well informed of area activities.
5. Safety procedures are followed in accordance with established standards.

Qualifications:

Training/Education/Certification:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver’s License and a copy of their Motor Vehicle Record to be provided prior to employment.
• Approved Criminal Background Investigation check if over 18 years of age.

Required Knowledge:

• Familiar with a wide variety of power driven machinery and gas powered lawn equipment.

Experience Required:

• Minimum of 1 year grounds maintenance experience.
• Experience in building or landscaping preferred.
• Must be at least 16 years of age.

Skills/Abilities:

• Good physical health and strength.
• Good organization skills.
• Able to work evenings and weekends.
• Basic mechanical and handyman abilities.

Physical Activities and Requirements of this Position:

Climbing: Including ladders, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc. Amount and type of climbing is more than that needed for ordinary movement. 

Balancing: May involve walking, standing, crouching on narrow, slippery or moving surfaces.

Stooping: Bending downward and forward at the waist. Requires full use of lower extremities and back muscles.

Kneeling: Resting on knee or knees.

Crouching: Bending downward and forward at the leg and spine.

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Standing: For extended time periods.

Walking: Especially for short distances.

Pushing: Using upper body to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects.

Pulling: Using upper body to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects. 

Lifting: Occurs frequently and requires substantial use of upper body and back muscles.
