We are looking for a Health and Safety Manager to lead the data center health and safety team in in the East Region of the United States to support the safe operation of our Data Centers.
We are looking for someone who has managed a team of at least 5 individuals, over a period of at least 2 years. You will be able to demonstrate how you have contributed to the continued improvement of performance of an existing team along with displaying skills in creating or growing a team of health and safety professionals. The candidate will also be a subject matter expert in safety regulations in the United States as well as in the implementation of industry best practices related to hazard recognition and mitigation.
You will be part of a regional and global team that works with internal and external partners to maintain and enhance the safety of operations. Experience in effectively managing relationships, including clear and concise communication with AWS legal partners, director-level operations leaders, onsite physical security, vendors, and regulatory compliance officers is required. Understanding and experience implementing safety and risk management systems, and fire/life safety systems is also required. Additionally, you will work with builders and contractors to achieve specific safety objectives.
You must be an effective communicator, sending clear, concise and consistent messages verbally, in written form, and/or in public speaking forums. This includes communications to broad teams of builders as well as to executive level leaders. This individual will advise, instruct and train company safety professionals, as well as operations leaders and builders on safety policies and procedures. You will also assist the teams in incorporating and improving our safety standards regionally and globally.
This role will report to the Regional Safety Manager and is based in Virginia, United States. Some domestic and international travel is required up to 25%.

Responsibilities
- Preparing and delivering a strategic approach to safety in the region including hazard recognition, actions related to leading and lagging indicators, and motivating operations partners to foster a positive safety culture
- Managing, hiring and developing Safety Engineers, providing both technical and leadership expertise and ensuring highest levels of performance.
- Recruit talent for the AMER region.
- Create a positive partnership with regional operations Leadership and serve as point of contact and escalation for safety related matters.
- Ensures compliance with and maintains expert level knowledge of safety programs, such as Lockout/Tagout, Fall Protection, Fire Prevention, Emergency Procedures and Evacuation and other programs for data center operations
- Ensuring compliance with company, global, regional and/or local Health and Safety standards.
- Support new region launch including initial site inspections, identifying accountability, purchasing and site readiness review.
- Conduct training and risk assessments.
- Collaborate with outside vendors (General Contractors, sub-contractors, Emergency Services) as they relate to operations and construction.
- Develop safety plans for on-site emergencies, special events and other unique safety situations.
- Perform safety data analysis and create bench marking.
- Ensure proper regulatory and internal safety recordkeeping and provide accurate reporting and metrics to support business safety initiatives.
- Consult and work with compliance and legal teams on safety regulations interpretations and investigations.
- Develop and implement solutions to eliminate exposure to risks and prevent injury.
- Act as the representative for Unannounced Government Visits (OSHA, EPA or other State and Federal regulatory agencies) and address any issues that may arise on a site level for that region
