What is an Engineer – Electric Asset Strategy?

Central Hudson is seeking an Engineer to join our asset strategy and data analytics team. Engineers within this team will champion Central Hudson’s value-focused approach to improving asset management strategies in a regulated utility environment. By unifying strategic asset planning, advanced analytics, and enterprise asset-management systems, you will ensure every investment delivers the optimum blend of reliability, risk reduction, and customer affordability. An engineer on this team will be a key stakeholder in championing regulatory obligations and corporate objectives into actionable portfolio strategies, data-driven insights, and system enhancements that maximize long-term value for our customers and shareholders while upholding our commitment to safe, sustainable service.

What does an Engineer – Electric Asset Strategy do?

  •  Supports a comprehensive asset strategy for all electric (Transmission, Distribution & Substation) assets that aligns with corporate objectives, emphasizing reliability, cost-effectiveness, and long-term value

  • Develops an understanding of the electric system including an understanding of IEEE Reliability Index (SAIFI, MAIFI, CAIDI & CEMI), contingency scenarios, and both state (NYS PSC) and federal (FERC) regulatory requirements; in addition, supports documentation requirements, including compliance for NERC standards

  • Performs system analyses to analyze the electric systems performance under various conditions

  • Develops and recommends statements of engineering practices; investigates planning methods and procedures of the electric utility industry

  • Supports a portfolio of operational research & development initiatives which can include - piloting emerging technologies, facilitating proof-of-concept projects, and translating successful trials into scalable operational solutions

  • Provides strategic input and oversight for enterprise asset-management systems and related data platforms, ensuring they are maintained, aligned with evolving business needs, and continuously enhanced to support reliability, regulatory, and financial objectives

  • Partners with high-performing, cross-disciplinary teams across the company to harmonize asset-strategy, analytics, operational R&D, and system enhancements including aligning scope, resources, and priorities to achieve measurable business outcomes

  • Translates organizational objectives into clear, actionable roadmaps for asset initiatives, analytics projects, system upgrades, and R&D pilots

  • Identifies emerging trends, risks, and opportunities related to asset strategy and, then provides strategic recommendations

  • Represents Central Hudson within industry working groups as well as the NYISO and other TOs

  • Provides support for storm restoration efforts

What does it take to be an Engineer – Electric Asset Strategy?

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, civil, mechanical, power or related engineering degree

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new computer software programs quickly

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with innovation in mind

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and quantitative skills

  • Must perform all tasks safely and design with safety in mind

  • Self-starter with initiative and desire to drive continuous improvement

  • Ability to voice opinions & lead discussions amongst industry groups

  • Flexibility to multitask and operate under pressure in a fast-paced work environment

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of and/or experience in the electric and gas utility industry

  • Knowledge of and/or experience related to renewables

  • Knowledge of and/or experience with asset strategy principals

  • Knowledge of and/or experience with data analytics
