POSITION SUMMARY
The role of Sr. GIS Specialist directly supports the company’s mission to develop and deliver clean power plants that make 100% renewable energy a reality for the world. The Sr. GIS Specialist will Support our transportation and civil engineering challenges across all our North American projects by mapping and visualizing all routes and challenges across all projects. Data will be shared internally and externally, so classification and access right security is critical. Candidate will also receive all site layouts and roadways from clients as GIS shapefiles for Nordex to analyze internally. Candidate must also be able to operate in AutoCAD and AutoTurn, with proven experience in Wind. The candidate must be creative and enjoy working within a small entrepreneurial environment that is mission and results-driven and community oriented. The individual should have the ability to exercise good independent judgment in a variety of situations, handle themselves well when in the field or external calls, or companies we are partnering with, have strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities and be flexible when the priorities change based on customer needs.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Develop maps to identify Nordex transportation solutions and constraints for all our North American projects.
- Develop, Use, integrate Nordex GIS tools, LIDAR data, Drone Othomosaic photometry data with AutoCAD and AutoTURN to assist the team in its evaluation of alternatives to best improve safety, access, and mobility. Nordex will empower you with the tools you need to best carry out each project/task.
- Perform basic design tasks and drawings related to the routing and transportation of components in the development of wind turbine projects.
- Travel up to 30% (including driving personal or rented vehicle) to attend client meetings, perform field surveys, or visit job sites. Locations likely to include remote areas across the US and Canada.
- Prepare documents to summarize mapping and include the results of desktop surveys and field surveys.
- Completing additional projects and special assignments (within your skillset or interested stretch targets) as requested. We are a small team that relishes doing what needs to be done to deliver for our customers. Nordex will support its employees with additional third party training and courses where needed to support the role or its requirements.
- Deploy drones to inspect, map, define obstacles and develop mitigations plans. Including vehicle simulations, and collaboration with civil engineering subcontractors and transportation companies.
WHAT YOU HAVE
- High School Diploma/ GED.
- Bachelors or Masters of Science in Engineering, Cartography, Geospatial Science or related field(s).
- Minimum 5 years of field experience with wind projects
- Deep, specialized background routing and moving wind turbine components (blades, towers, nacelles), as well as off road applications within project cargo.
- 5 years of design experience with ArcGIS and other GIS systems
- Passion for wind turbine transportation industry and excitement to work on a young and growing team.
- High proficiency in ArcGIS, including integration of company database and programs with County or Township GIS data
- Working knowledge with laser and photographic data processing (LIDAR, Photo-othomosaics, or similar)
- Initiative-taking, proactive, and detail-oriented
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work quickly, manage multiple and conflicting deadlines, and establish priorities
- Possess solid time management, and follow-through skills
- Valid US or CA Driver’s License
- Willingness to travel to project site locations when necessary
- Advanced knowledge of office procedures, document management MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and the Goggle Workspace Suite
- Driving is an essential function of the job. Must possess a full valid driver’s license and be insurable under our auto insurance policy. This position will be subject to periodic driver’s abstract checks to confirm continued insurability.
