Laboratory Manager

Summary

The Department of Surgery is seeking a Laboratory Manager for the cardiac regeneration laboratory. Individuals with experience in cardiac physiology are also strongly encouraged to apply. The main responsibilities of this position will be to help supervise and maintain the research operation within the cardiac regeneration laboratory. The candidate will also be responsible for the general maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment, as well as troubleshooting instruments and protocols as necessary. Attention to detail and strong organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills are a must.

Job Duties

• Consults with faculty to determine equipment purchase priorities based on budget, condition of existing equipment, and scheduled laboratory activities. 
• Prepares and puts in place equipment scheduled for use. 
• Demonstrates use and care of equipment to research personnel in the laboratory. May maintain research databases using scientific software. 
• Arranges service calls for equipment and orders for laboratory supplies. 
• Diagnoses equipment malfunctions and dismantle and repair equipment, applying knowledge of shop mechanics and using gauges, meters, hand tools, and power tools. 
• Confers with faculty periodically to evaluate new equipment and methods. 
• Serves as biosafety officer for the laboratory or department. 
• Supervises laboratory personnel in a variety of laboratory duties. 

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
• Five years of relevant experience, with prior supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in cardiac physiology laboratories
• 10 years of laboratory management experience
