Director of Clinical Research, Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, Sarcoma Oncology, on the Clinical Scholar pathway
The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW) are jointly recruiting a full-time faculty member for their Sarcoma Program. The position will be dual appointed with a primary faculty appointment in the Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutch and a secondary appointment in the UW Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology. The position will report to the Senior Vice President (SVP) of the Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutch and the Division Head of Hematology and Oncology at UW. The position will be at the assistant, associate, or full professor level without tenure due to funding (WOT), commensurate with experience and qualifications.
This position is designed for a physician who will provide strategic direction and business development with a strong vision to develop and grow the Fred Hutch Sarcoma Clinical Research Program. This leader will contribute to our mission of delivering outstanding clinical care and developing excellence in research in the biology and treatment of sarcomas and closely related conditions. The successful candidate is expected to: i) lead Fred Hutch’s Sarcoma Clinical research operations and ii) galvanize multi-disciplinary translational research within Fred Hutch. The successful candidate will enter a vibrant and dynamic research environment with an opportunity to lead and to collaborate with basic, translational, public health, and clinical sarcoma researchers across diverse disciplines. The University of Washington School of Medicine is the designated medical school for Alaska, Montana and Idaho, which, with Washington, form the WAMI region. The Fred Hutch is the only NCI designated Cancer Center in WAMI, providing unique research and clinical opportunities in this largely rural area. The candidate will serve as an academic, clinical and educational leader charged with organizing, directing and expanding the clinical research efforts of an established team of sarcoma clinicians. The successful candidate will also foster and further develop an environment that facilitates clinical and translational research.
This position will have primary oversight of the sarcoma clinical research program and will oversee the strategic planning, implementation and management of clinical research activities focused on sarcoma. This position will play a pivotal role in advancing the FHCC mission of combatting cancer through impactful clinical and translational research. Priorities include: promoting diversity, equity and inclusion, developing new research collaborations with pharmaceutical companies and national trials, building strong partnerships among researchers and staff, integrating trials across and between different stakeholders, leading and facilitating translational research collaborations in sarcoma across the Cancer Consortium, educating and training researchers in sarcoma, and creating a vision for the future of sarcoma and its treatment for the region in collaboration with other oncology leaders.
The successful candidate will be appointed on the Clinician Scholar track and will devote approximately 40% of time to sarcoma clinical care. The remainder of the candidate’s time will be protected for research and administrative tasks associated with the Fred Hutch sarcoma, clinical and research programs, in addition to teaching and mentorship.
Fred Hutch and University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Teaching responsibilities will include coordination of informal teaching and formal didactics with affiliated training and fellowship programs, for clinicians, and the general medical community.
University of Washington assistant professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments and associate and full professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that both align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
Faculty are expected to perform their primary activities on-site at Fred Hutch.
