Job Description

We are seeking a talented Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join our Core AI team at Akeneo. Our mission is to identify, experiment with, and develop cutting-edge AI models that enhance both customer experience and product experience within our PIM solutions. As a cross-functional team, we collaborate with various Impact Teams to integrate AI-powered features into our products, ensuring that our customers benefit from the latest advancements in machine learning and artificial intelligence.

At Akeneo, engineers work across the full stack while maintaining deep expertise in their preferred discipline, whether that’s AI/ML, backend, or infrastructure. We embrace a ‘you build it, you run it’ philosophy, meaning you'll own AI-driven features from development through production and long-term maintenance, while having the opportunity to contribute across our entire platform.

Our organisation is structured similarly to AWS, with each Product Line operating independently under a Single Threaded Owner (STO) at the VP level. Within each Product Line, multiple Area Single Threaded Owners (Area-STOs) at the Director level oversee several Impact Teams. Each Impact Team, led by an Impact Owner, comprises approximately eight engineers, designers, and PMs who work autonomously, following their own processes and methodologies.

You will report directly to the Impact Owner of the Core AI team, collaborating closely with engineers, product managers, designers, data scientists, and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• AI Model Development & Integration: Design, implement, and optimize AI/ML models to enhance product experience and customer experience (e.g., developing an LLM-powered product classification model to improve catalog enrichment accuracy). Work on integrating AI-driven solutions into Akeneo’s PIM system, ensuring scalability and efficiency (e.g., implementing automated product attribute extraction using computer vision models).
• AI Infrastructure & MLOps: Develop and maintain AI infrastructure, ensuring efficient model training, deployment, and monitoring (e.g., setting up an ML pipeline using Kubernetes and Terraform to automate model retraining and deployment). Leverage GCP, Kubernetes, and Terraform to build scalable and robust AI services.
• Impact & Customer Centricity: Collaborate with product teams and designers to define, prototype, and deploy AI-driven solutions that solve real customer problems (e.g., participating in customer calls to gather feedback on AI-powered recommendation features). Identify areas where AI can improve customer workflows and drive the adoption of AI-based solutions within Akeneo’s products.
• Code Quality & System Reliability: Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code, following best practices in software engineering and AI/ML development. Ensure AI models are performant, explainable, and auditable (e.g., implementing bias detection and explainability features in AI models).
• Team Work & Knowledge Sharing: Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to other developers (e.g., reviewing pull requests for an AI-powered search ranking algorithm). Collaborate with data scientists and backend engineers to bridge the gap between research and production.
• Mentorship & Innovation: Mentor engineers in AI and ML best practices, guiding less experienced team members through technical challenges. Stay up-to-date with emerging AI/ML trends and technologies, bringing innovative ideas to enhance Akeneo’s AI strategy (e.g., researching and proposing the adoption of foundation models for automated catalog
