Job Description

The Intelligent Sustainable Technology Division(ISTD) within the Aerospace, Transportation and Advanced Systems Laboratory (ATAS) is looking for graduate students to work on new and challenging robotics and automation research projects. Potential project areas include machine learning and perception, planning and control of robotic manipulators and mobile robots, development of virtual and augmented reality interfaces, and integration of computer vision and other sensing technologies. These students should be able to work in both a team setting and be self-motivated when working on individual assignments. Tasks will include the development and implementation of leading edge algorithms, background research, programming, debugging, and testing.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Graduate Research Assistant

• Pursuing a Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field
• Must be enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours)
• Must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
• Commit to 15-20 hours of work per week
• Programming experience in at least one of the following languages: Python, C++, C#

Preferred Qualifications

• Robot Operating System (ROS) experience
• Pytorch experience
• Experience in Behavior Cloning and/or Reinforcement Learning
• Familiarity with Linux and open-source tools
• Task / team leadership experience
• Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
• Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to non-technical personnel
