Job Overview
Shriners Children's is seeking a part time Health Unit Coordinator (HUC). This position provides coordination of unit by interacting effectively in person and by phone, with patients and families, staff and physicians. Understand appointment scheduling, computer skills, and medical terminology. Self motivation, courtesy and confidentiality are fundamental to the position.
Hours: Part-Time (0.80 FTE); 32 hours per week (Evening, 1:30p-10p)
Schedule: No working weekends, typically no working holidays unless census deems otherwise.
This position works 4 (four) 8-hour shifts per week (3 day weekend!)
Responsibilities
- Participates in positive and effective communications; demonstrates flexibility to change as required; promotes inter/intra department teamwork; works efficiently and demonstrates integrity.
- Processes, schedules and coordinates transportation of patients and orthotic devices.
- Receives, assesses, and routes telephone calls.
- Initiates, maintains, and disassembles charts for in-house patients.
- Encounters: registration, updating, quick/trauma admit and discharge.
- Patient Demographics updating and viewing.
- Consistently meets operational expectations related to attendance, punctuality, meeting attendance, compliance with deadlines, staying current with posted and email communications, etc.

Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma / GED required
Experience
- Experience in a healthcare setting and medical terminology strongly desired
- Previous HUC experience preferred
Certification/Licensure
- BLS certification required
- Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) certification preferred
(Pay range for this position is $16.77/hr. - $23.75/hr. The hired applicant's placement within the range is based on qualifications, professional experience and education.
