About You and The Role

We have an exciting opportunity in our Reliability Engineering team, where you will have a diversity of responsibilities ranging from operating  and maintaining state-of-the-art test and failure analysis equipment like computerized tomography (CT) , digital microscopes, environmental test chambers, as well as making  a direct impact on the design of Zipline’s medical-delivery drones by setting up and conducting development tests, and leading the most crucial failure and root cause analyses.

Ideal teammates will have worked in aerospace, medical devices, defense contracting, or other high-performance or high-reliability industries. They will have a detailed understanding of system function down to the component level, ability to troubleshoot mixed signal and power delivery circuitry, system-level defects (like motors and controllers), and component level defects (like transistors and microprocessors).

What You'll Do  

  • Interpret technical drawings, schematics, diagrams, as well as imagery from 3D tomography, optical/acoustic/scanning-electrical microscopy to diagnose problems. 
  • Install and ensure correct functionality of electromechanical equipment and engineering prototypes from basic instruction.
  • Independently operate, maintain, troubleshoot, perform electromechanical equipment repairs using technical skills.
  • Develop and implement equipment SOPs and preventative maintenance programs for EE Reliability lab equipment. Document and report issues found during testing. Create and present technical summaries of results. Interface effectively with engineers, field service teams, and vendors.
  • Develop and maintain timelines and performance standards. Escalate issues when necessary.
  • Continuously build upon previous knowledge to solve new problems; drive towards clarity for unclear goals; unblock yourself whenever possible.
  • Uphold workplace safety standards; display a positive attitude and strong work ethic aligned with Zipline’s mission and values. 

What You'll Bring 

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Technology/Electrical Engineering; 2+ years of experience in an engineering development environment; 2+ years experience in a Test/Electrical Technician Role; or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of hand tools, electrical meters, test equipment, and instrumentation.
  • Proficiency with SMT hand-soldering and wire harnesses assembly.
  • Proficiency interpreting electrical diagrams and schematics to diagnose and repair issues.
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English communication.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and vendors both in-person and remotely.
  • Experience with CAD software (Altium, NX preferred)
  • Familiarity with software automation including Excel, Python, and LabVIEW
  • Familiarity with large code bases and GIT preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs; comfort working in tight spaces, climbing ladders,  standing, bending, squatting, and kneeling.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites, test sites, and vendors  (up to 10%)
  • Must be eligible to work in the US.
