About the role

Mission Summary:

Our Component Engineering Team is searching for an experienced Component Engineer to be focused and responsible for requirements, guidelines, component readiness, verification & validation, and testing of the infra-red camera and external microphone being used as a part of Motional's Autonomous Driving programs. You will be responsible for collaborating cross functional for driving component requirements, building and implementing test benches, automating test setups using Python, performing, documenting tests and analyzing test results. 

The Motional Pittsburgh office is located in the new Hazelwood Green development, a culmination of the city’s goal of restoring an economic driver to the neighborhood in a thoughtful, inclusive, and sustainable way. With views along the Monongahela river, the Pittsburgh office is in the heart of this new state of the art development.

**This position requires the ability to work onsite in our Pittsburgh location** 

What you'll be doing:

  • Build the infra-red and microphone component requirements and guidelines.
  • Ensure all deliverables with major development milestones along the program for sensors.
  • Ensure the compliance of components with the proposed guidelines and regulations.
  • Build the sub-system bench and operate the bench with the boundary components.
  • Design and implement test plans and procedures for Autonomous Vehicle sensors,
  • Design, build, and maintain Electrical and/or mechanical test benches used in testing.
  • Develop tools and processes to repeatedly automate testing.
  • Create test cases to understand behavior, performance, and limitations of Autonomous Vehicle ECUs and sensors.
  • Perform testing activities on Autonomous Vehicle components in both labs setting and on-road vehicle environment.
  • Test a multiple layer of HW's and HW bring-up
  • Documentation and reporting of test setup, test plans, and test results
  • Failure analysis and debugging of degraded or failed ECUs and sensor.

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in electrical engineering /physics /mechatronics /robotics or equivalent experience 
  • 2-5 years of experience in optical or audio sensor-level development or integration experience for one or more of the automotive and/or Autonomous Vehicle(AV) sensors
  • Basic knowledge of common vehicle electrical and serial communication protocol (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, I2C, UART, Automotive ethernet etc.) 
  • Experience with electrical/ hardware testing for IR cameras and audio sensors etc.
  • Hands on experience with power supplies, oscilloscope’s function generators and multimeters etc. 
  • Experience with test automation using Python/LabVIEW/C++
  • Experience with requirement compliance, issue-tracking and task management software platform such as JIRA, Jama, Polarion, Confluence, Testrail
  • Experience with environmental and/or shock/vibration testing and EMC
  • Performed Root-cause analysis particularly with automotive ECUs and sensors

Bonus Points: 

  • Familiarity with ISO 16750, USCAR, IEC specification
  • Experience in automotive OEMs, Tier1 or Tier2 is a plus
