Technical Aide

Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides technical support. Responsibilities may include computer programming or operations; research support; medical patient care; technical equipment maintenance, repair, fabrication or operation; or other technical support functions.

Unit Position Summary

The successful candidate will work with PhD colleagues within MSU St. Andrews to aid in Contract Chemistry Fee for Service Organic and Synthetic Research. This position offers in-office work experience, requiring that the candidate work on-site at the facility in Midland approximately 19 hours per week. 

This position offers the opportunity to engage in:

• Fee for Service Research 
• Organic and Synthetic discovery and process development
• Operating and maintaining chemistry instrumentation
• Maintaining a clean and organized laboratory workspace
• Ensuring a safe working environment

Required Qualifications: 

This position requires knowledge in organic, synthetic chemistry, and catalysis. This position will require a PhD in organic or organometallic chemistry.

Desired Qualifications

At least five years of experience with industrial process chemistry; experience in process development, experience in method development (NMR, GC, HPLC, and DSC), experience with chemical handling and storage.

Summary of Health Risks

Prepares equipment for chemical processes by utilizing appropriate cleaning methods, moving raw materials, moving waste for appropriate disposal. This position involves routinely working with chemicals and use of appropriate PPE.
