Network and Security Engineer

Position Overview:

MDK, an innovative law firm, is seeking a skilled Network and Security Engineer to design, implement, and maintain our core network and infrastructure systems, while leading information security and compliance efforts. This key role ensures our technology environment is stable, scalable, and secure. You’ll blend strategic insight with hands-on work across network infrastructure and cybersecurity, acting as the firm’s go-to expert for IT compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Network and Infrastructure Management:
  • Architect and manage enterprise network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, wireless, and cloud connectivity (e.g., Expedient, Azure).
  • Ensure operational stability of all network components with a focus on performance and scalability.
  • Lead system upgrades, disaster recovery planning, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Oversee endpoint security and secure email gateways to protect against phishing, spam, and malware.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and standards for network and infrastructure elements.

• Information Security and Compliance:
  • Design and maintain the firm’s information security architecture covering network security, firewalls, endpoint protection, and secure configurations.
  • Establish and enforce security policies aligned with regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Lead internal and external IT security audits and manage due diligence responses.
  • Implement Security as a Service (SECaaS) solutions such as managed detection and response (MDR) and cloud access security brokers (CASB).
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and coordinate remediation efforts.
  • Monitor emerging threats and maintain incident response readiness.

• Operational Leadership and Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for network and security within MDK.
  • Collaborate with IT, development, help desk, and business teams to integrate security and infrastructure into daily operations.
  • Provide training and guidance on network and security best practices.
  • Keep technical documentation current to support operational continuity.

• Cross-Training and Team Integration:
  • Work closely with a small, collaborative IT team, supporting help desk operations, onboarding, and application support.
  • Assist with VMware-based virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) administration and performance monitoring.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to ensure responsive IT support coverage.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or related field. Or equivalent work experience.
• 5 or more years of experience in network engineering and systems infrastructure
• Demonstrated capability and at least 3 years of experience in security architecture or IT compliance.  
• Strong knowledge of enterprise networking protocols, hardware, and cloud-based integration.
• Working knowledge of regulatory and customer requirements, including SOC 2 and financial institution audit standards.
• Familiarity with risk frameworks and standards (e.g. NIST, CIS, ISO 27001).
• Hands-on experience with security technologies including endpoint protection, firewalls, email security gateways, IAM, SIEM, and SECaaS.
