Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Student Activities is responsible for club registration and training, as well as the planning and execution of both the fall and spring Student Activities Fairs. These responsibilities also include reviewing and updating policies related to the annual club registration process. This individual will help organize club development programming, oversee the Lunch & Lead program, and assist with general club support and outreach. This position advises student leaders and programs to ensure they maintain high standards related to student life and community development that support the educational mission of the institution.
Ideal Candidate Statement:
An ideal candidate has experience managing or working with student organizations, club registration, and/or facilitating programs.
Workplace Requirements:
This position is offered as a hybrid role, combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration (one virtual day per week during the academic year, and two virtual days during the summer). Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.
Hiring Range: $52,000 to $55,500 annually, contingent upon qualifications and experience
*Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 2+ years of experience in higher education or a similar field
- In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education, above and beyond what is required, may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to prepare materials and clearly and effectively communicate information
- Experience advising high-level student leaders in one-on-one settings
- Ability to apply student development and learning outcomes theories
- Ability to manage events and programs
- Ability to instruct students in risk management and program planning
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple deadlines
- A commitment to creating and maintaining a welcoming environment where all can thrive
Preferences:
- Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration or a related field
- Experience working with student organizations
- Experience working in a university setting
Essential Functions:
- Supports department and area mission, vision, and goals
- Responsible for program logistics for all Student Activities Fair and Lunch & Lead programs, including budgeting and risk management
- Advises and guides student leaders, especially in areas related to club registration and renewal
- Engages in club consultations related to policies and procedures
- Identifies, investigates, and provides solutions for discrepancies within the club registration process
- Serves as the liaison with both the Student Association and Graduate Student Association for the approval of new clubs
- Reviews club constitutions and provides feedback to ensure compliance
