Description

The Occupational Therapy Department is seeking a dedicated and dynamic faculty member for a 12-month, on campus Clinical or Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position, beginning in August 2025. The department offers an accredited entry-level OTD program, committed to excellence in education, research, and clinical practice. Our mission is to educate and mentor culturally competent, doctoral-prepared, evidence-based practitioners to be visionaries and leaders in the profession of Occupational Therapy in local and global communities

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to
Teaching
- Teaching graduate-level on-campus, off-campus, and online courses in an entry-level occupational therapy doctorate program.
- Supervising students in scholarly activities.
- Advising and mentoring graduate students, including guiding student-practitioner research projects and doctoral capstone projects.
- Contribute to inter-professional education and collaborate across disciplines.
- Contribute to program evaluation to assure quality assessment and program development.
- Ongoing evaluation and development of curriculum to align with program goals and accreditation standards.
- Engage in student recruitment efforts and admission processes to support student success and program growth.
- Participate in student recruitment and retention activities.
Scholarship
- Maintain personal scholarship according to the College of Health Sciences scholarship requirements for Clinical or Tenure-Track Faculty.
Service
- All CHS faculty members are expected to provide service to the University, college, department, profession, and the community. Consistent with the mission of CHS and the University, professional service contributions to the Flint and regional community are valued, as well as national and international contributions. Engagement in service activities at multiple levels is required. The quality and impact of service contributions are more important than the number of different service activities.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- An earned terminal degree (i.e., PhD, EdD, DSc, DHS, or OTD) in Occupational Therapy, Rehabilitation Science or related discipline (Candidates nearing completion of their doctorate, by the time of employment, may be considered)
- A minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist.
- Initial certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) and eligibility for licensure in the state of Michigan
- Demonstrated potential for scholarship and a defined research agenda.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills along with effective interpersonal skills.
- Evidence of scholarly contributions to the profession and/or inter-professional field (i.e., publications, presentations at local, state, and national levels).
- Eligibility for a tenure-track assistant position is assessed upon hire according to the CHS Tenure and Promotion Standards.
- Tenure is contingent upon the University of Michigan Board of Regents approval.
Desired Qualifications
- At least two (2) years of teaching experience in higher education.
- Clinical / Instructional expertise in the areas of research methods, assistive technologies, mental and behavioral health
