Physical Therapist – Sports Medicine
Job Type: Full-Time, Variable Hours Including Weekends
Location: Vanderbilt University Medical Center– Sports Medicine
Vanderbilt University Medical Center is seeking a motivated and skilled Physical Therapist to join our Sports Medicine team. In this role, you will deliver comprehensive, evidence-based physical therapy services to athletes competing at the highest levels. This position is an excellent fit for Physical Therapists who thrive in a fast-paced, competitive, athlete-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Implement injury prevention programs, emergency action plans, and return-to-play protocols.
• Serve as a trusted clinical resource for athletes and coaching staff.
• Provide direct patient care in the clinic approximately 50% of the time.
• Conduct advanced evaluations and analyze functional and clinical data to assess readiness, safe participation levels, and return-to-play timelines.
• Utilize athletic training and sports rehabilitation strategies to maximize functional outcomes and safe performance.
• Promote athlete health, safety, and long-term performance longevity through education and evidence-based interventions.
• Assist with program development, administrative tasks, and operational support to advance Sports Medicine services.
• Operate motor vehicles to provide on-site support as needed.
• Uphold Vanderbilt Medical Center’s standards for professionalism, safety, teamwork, and clinical excellence.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support the growth and success of Sports Medicine.
Required Qualifications
• Licensed Physical Therapist
• Excellent communication, organization, and time-management skills
• Strong commitment to athlete safety, quality of care, and evidence-based practice
• Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
• Sports medicine or athletic performance experience

• Analyzes comprehensive information from formal and informal assessment that is pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine a rehabilitation treatment diagnosis.
• Collaborates with stakeholders in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the rehabilitation continuum.
• Applies appropriate, evidence-based interventions to ensure effective outcomes and re-evaluates performance to assess patient's progress towards goals.
• Employs strategies to promote successful return to home, community, and school/vocational environments.
