Intro to Position
Join us to lead the development and launch of the new station analytics service for NPR’s Member stations. As a Senior Insights Analyst, Station Analytics, you will build insights programming and cultivate deep, consultative partnerships with stations across the Network. You will equip stations with the strategic data and expertise needed to engage digital audiences, while serving as an advocate at NPR for our station partners and local audiences.
This is a union-represented role covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with NABET-CWA DMU.
Responsibilities
- Lead and own the station-facing insights service
- Develop expertise on station audiences and become a subject-matter-expert on station audiences and the analytics needs of stations
- Conduct monthly webinars for stations to provide analysis on Network-wide trends, emerging audience insights, trainings on data usage, and best practices
- Create and manage monthly newsletter for stations to provide top-level Network-wide trends as context for station-level trends
- Thoroughly learn, use and understand NPR’s line of analytics software products and services, including data tracking of station platforms, datasets, and dashboards
- Build and sustain collaborative and consultative relationships with stations, including with station executives
- Oversee compliance with data collection processes and standards for station digital platforms to ensure data consistency; troubleshoot tracking implementation with stations
- Support stations to maximize the value of NPR’s products and services by maintaining productive relationships and handling questions and issues with professionalism and speed
- Serve as station ambassador, communicating with NPR staff on station needs to inform roadmaps, services, and research; proactively identify areas to integrate NPR and station initiatives
- Identify and compile internal research that will help inform stations grow and engage their audiences
- Write and keep up-to-date guides, documentation, and other training materials for stations and NPR staff
- Keep a pulse on and use industry knowledge to contextualize insights and identify emerging trends
- Partner and collaborate within Audience Insights and with cross-functional teams focused on station technical infrastructure, collaborative journalism, and station technical support

Required Skills and Experience
- 3+ years of experience in website/app analytics or other audience behavioral data
- 1+ years experience providing direct support to customers, clients, or external stakeholders, with the ability to create strong consultative partnerships
- Strong public speaking skills, with the ability to and comfort with presenting to large audiences and navigating live Q&A
- Proven expertise and deep experience with Google Analytics (or similar)
- Proven expertise in advanced SQL (e.g., window functions, complex joins, query optimization, and data transformation)
- Advanced Excel/Google Sheets proficiency, including pivot tables, complex formulas, data manipulation, and visualization for ad-hoc analysis and reporting
- Demonstrated experience and comfort working with large datasets, with the ability to develop expertise in new and proprietary datasets
- Excellent oral, written, and visual communication skills, particularly for explaining complex quantitative information to non-technical audiences
- Experience training non-technical audiences on using analytics tools and das
