Senior Backend Engineer

Sp0n, Inc. d/b/a Citizen seeks a Software Engineer for its New York, NY location.

Duties: Lead the development, design, and building of Citizen systems for scale, modularity, and flexibility, without compromising on reliability. Work closely with the Data Science, Product, Design, Mobile, and Web teams to develop and implement advanced application design concepts geared toward improving application functionality, user experience, and facilitating our business growth. Function as an architect and developer, designing and building our systems for scale, modularity, and flexibility without compromising reliability. Deliver backend systems with attention to high availability, low latency and scalability. Build and operate infrastructure, toolset, and deployment pipelines. Work with proven open-source tools, rather than bespoke custom implementations.

Requirements: Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field plus 5 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience as a software engineer or a closely related occupation. Alternatively, will accept a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field plus 3 years of experience as a software engineer or a closely related occupation. Full term of experience must include: developing advanced scalable applications and backend systems using Python, JavaScript, web technologies, software design patterns, JIRA and Agile methodology.
