Position Title: Systems Engineer II Division: Information Services Reports To: Network Coordinator FLSA Status: Exempt Salary Schedule:  IT1-6 Work Days: 244
Essential Duties:
  • Supervise the design and architecture of complex systems, considering performance, scalability, security, and maintainability.
  • Supervise cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into effective system designs.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and provide recommendations for incorporating them into the existing infrastructure.
  • Plan, deploy, and supervise critical systems infrastructure, including servers, virtual networks, storage, and virtualization environments.
  • Configure and maintain hardware, software, and network components to ensure seamless operations.
  • Automate provisioning, configuration, and deployment processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
  • Integrate various software and hardware components to create cohesive and optimized systems.
  • Ensure interoperability between different systems, applications, and services.
  • Supervise system performance and proactively identify and address bottlenecks or performance issues.
  • Fine-tune system configurations to optimize resource utilization and application responsiveness.
  • Ensure that systems perform optimally to support schools' learning and performance initiatives.
  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect systems from unauthorized access and data breaches.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry security best practices and ensure systems comply with relevant regulations and standards.
  • advanced technical support to resolve complex system issues and incidents.
  • Collaborate with support teams to troubleshoot escalated cases and implement long-term solutions.
  • Create comprehensive technical documentation including system diagrams, configuration guides, and standard operating procedures.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Systems Engineer I positions, sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to a culture of knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Five to ten years of experience in Computer Science and Information Technology with a systems engineer focus desired. Experience in an education environment preferred.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g. CySA+, CCNA, MCSA, Security+ and Network+) are highly preferred within two years.
  • In-depth knowledge of system design principles, networking, virtualization, and cloud technologies preferred.
  • Proficiency in configuring and managing enterprise Windows operating systems, databases, virtual server environment, web servers, and Active Directory management.
  • Strong work experience with infrastructure automated scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of security best practices and experience implementing security measures within systems architecture.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
  • Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
  • May require occasional after-hours or weekend work for system maintenance or emergencies.
  • Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • May require using a ladder, climbing ladder to building mezzanine, working under a desk or table, using hand tools, and operating vehicles or equipment owned by the district.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
