General Description and Classification Standards


The Community Partnerships Manager is responsible for creating, organizing and coordinating strategic partnerships that support the goals of the Department of Parks and Recreation, including (but not limited to) partnerships with other City departments, nonprofits, corporate groups, funders, community members, and volunteers. This individual will play a key role in coordinating projects and programs, managing stakeholders' expectations, and resolving any conflicts that may arise. Additionally, this position will monitor the progress of partnerships, identifying risks, and making adjustments as needed to ensure that partnerships meet their goals and deliver intended outcomes. This position provides strategic guidance to senior leadership. The ideal candidate will be a project manager with a passion for community engagement, have excellent communication skills, be able to accurately track and report on deliverables, and will have experience in working with community partners. 


Supervision Received
Works under general supervision.  May work independently with responsibility for an assigned function or program.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  May perform other duties as assigned.

  • Collaborates with DPR staff to manage DPR’s community garden program and volunteer initiatives 
  • Identifies, cultivates, and nurtures strategic partnerships with businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and community organizations that advance the objectives of Activate-ATL, including (but not limited to) those in the areas of local food access, environmental education, volunteering, and park stewardship.   
  • Ensures partnership proposals accurately reflect the organization's needs and objectives.
  • Tracks and reports on partnership deliverables in a timely and professional manner. 
  • Provides negotiation and management support of partnership agreements, ensuring mutual benefit and sustainability for all parties involved.
  • Drafts MOUs and other partnership agreements and assists with the required legislative process to implement.
  • Plans and executes of partnership events and implementation of partnership programs.
  • Plans and develops strategic plans for increasing DPR resources for both parks and recreation facilities and amenities. 
  • Coordinates needs assessments and market research to inform opportunities for growth for parks and recreation programs.
  • Supports communication and collaboration among stakeholders, including advisory council members, community partners, government agencies, donors, and volunteers. 
  • Serves as Departmental liaison with park conservancies and Friends of the Park groups, working closely with Park Pride to foster community engagement and stewardship of local parks
  • Works with DPR staff to develop resources and policies to support partners, donors, and stakeholders in their work with the Department of Parks & Recreation and the City of Atlanta
  • Provides ongoing support, recognition, and appreciation to volunteers, fostering a positive and rewarding volunteer experience.
  • Recruits, trains, and coordinates volunteers for recreational programming (i.e. coaches)
  • Collaborates with park nonprofits/conservancies (including Park Pride, Hands on Atlanta, and others) to coordinate volunteer efforts and increase volunteer opportunities in parks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•    Knowledge of general principles and practices of Parks and Recreation program planning, development and implementation 
•    General knowledge of community engagement, volunteer management, and local food.
•    Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, internal and external customers.
•    Ability to create and manage budgets.
