The Pharmacy Leader (PL) is a licensed registered pharmacist accountable for leading, managing and advancing people, processes and / or programs that support direct or indirect patient care. The PL promotes and advocates for patients, pharmacists / colleagues and the practice of pharmacy across West Michigan.Responsible for providing leadership, oversight, direction, alignment, and standardization for acute care, ambulatory, infusion, and community Clinical Pharmacy services. Implements strategic and operational initiatives including new services/programs, revenue enhancement, expense reduction, managed care utilization systems, and strategies. Responsible for ensuring performance excellence in terms of quality, safety, service, affordability, and technology. Oversees drug utilization management efforts, manages educational activities, and provides subject matter expertise in assigned area.
POSITION PURPOSE
The Pharmacy Leader (PL) is a licensed registered pharmacist accountable for leading, managing and advancing people, processes and / or programs that support direct or indirect patient care. The PL promotes and advocates for patients, pharmacists / colleagues and the practice of pharmacy as defined by clinical area(s) of expertise and assignment.
Responsible for providing leadership, oversight, direction, alignment, and standardization for acute care and ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy services. Implements strategic and operational initiatives including new services/programs, revenue enhancement, expense reduction, managed care utilization systems, and strategies. Responsible for ensuring performance excellence in terms of quality, safety, service, affordability, and technology. Oversees drug utilization management efforts, manages educational activities, and provides subject matter expertise in assigned area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Leadership – Provides leadership & retains accountability for delegation, choices, decisions & outcomes. Directs alignment and standardization for Pharmacy Clinical Services across the continuum of care to provide high-quality, cost-effective patient care in accordance with professional standards, regulatory and licensing agency policies, and federal and state laws related to the practice of Pharmacy. Acts independently & appropriately within license, scope of knowledge & experience in practice area. Exhibits agility and willingness to take on new and additional responsibilities. Embraces new ideas and cultural differences while managing competing priorities.
Goals – Partners with executive leaders, medical staff, and healthcare team to develop strategy, goals, objectives, and operational standards to ensure services and priority alignment. Responsible for the successful achievement of strategic objectives and goals and optimizing resources to achieve the desired outcomes.
Quality and Compliance - Creates and promotes a culture based on the principles of continuous quality improvement. Collaborates with health care colleagues to establish quality and compliance standards. Monitors quality assurance activities and issues, identifies opportunities, and creates corrective action plans to improve operational effectiveness.
Finance - Ensures appropriate operational and capital budgets are prepared for Clinical Pharmacy services. Influences effective, judicious, and financially responsible use of resources. Collaborates in identifying analytics and metrics to demonstrate baseline and performance improvement targets. Monitors key performance indicators (KPIs), drives tactics, and implements actions plans.
Pharmacy Operations – Responsible for medication safety measures and efficient integration of Clinical Pharmacy services into operational processes. Optimally utilizes and integrates technology and centralized support services.
Clinical Services – Responsible for identifying and implementing Clinical Pharmacy programs, and drug use improvement initiatives. Develops staff development program and education activities. Communicates drug information and appropriate medication use recommendations to appropriate stakeholders/committees. Oversees evaluation of drug products, medication utilization and therapeutic alternatives. Consults with health care team members regarding the appropriate utilization of drugs and influences prescribing to deliver quality, cost effective patient care. Serves as a subject matter expert in assigned Clinical Pharmacy practice area and participates in multi-disciplinary patient rounds.
