Principal Developer TeamcenterX
Meso Scale Diagnostics, LLCAbout the role
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the design, build, and integration of MSD’s Siemens Teamcenter X Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) platform. The position owns the technical architecture for server-side customization (ITK, SOA, custom handlers), codeful BMIDE extensions, Active Workspace Client (AWC) customization, and integrations connecting Teamcenter with JD Edwards ERP, CAD systems, manufacturing systems, and downstream consumers across MSD’s digital thread.
The Principal Developer establishes engineering standards and reusable patterns for the broader PLM team, mentors senior and junior developers, and serves as the principal technical partner to the Sr. Teamcenter Functional Analyst, Teamcenter administrators, infrastructure engineers, and Siemens or systems-integrator partners.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Own the technical architecture for Teamcenter X customizations, integrations, and extensions across server-side, AWC, and integration layers; set engineering standards, reusable patterns, and reference designs for the PLM team.
- Lead the design, development, and unit-testing of Teamcenter X server-side customizations using ITK (C/C++), including custom handlers, user exits, BMIDE extensions, and SOA service implementations, personally taking on the most complex builds.
- Lead migration from Aras to Teamcenter X. Set technical standards, lead architectural decisions, and ensure all customizations are well-architected, supportable, and validated within a regulated (21 CFR Part 11 / GxP) and ISO 27001-controlled environment.
- Architect and review Teamcenter X codeful BMIDE extensions (custom business objects, properties, methods, deep-copy rules, GRM rules); determine where codeful customization is justified versus codeless configuration.
- Drive Active Workspace Client (AWC) customization strategy: declarative UI (JSON view-model definitions), custom commands, client-side event handlers, and toolbar/context-menu integration; establish front-end engineering standards.
- Define workflow handler patterns (action, rule, condition) and EPM handlers supporting engineering change, document control, and product release processes.
- Architect integrations between Teamcenter X and downstream/upstream systems (JD Edwards ERP, MES, CAD, quality systems, middleware) using T4S, T4EA, SOA, REST, and message-based patterns; own end-to-end integration design across the MSD digital thread.
- Establish standards for technical design specifications, code reviews, unit-test results, deployment runbooks, and validation-supporting documentation (IQ/OQ/PQ artifacts) consistent with MSD’s GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, and ISO 27001 standards.
- Own the configuration management strategy for Teamcenter customization assets under source control (Git), code-review practices, CI/CD pipelines for Teamcenter deliverables, and secure-coding standards.
- Partner with Teamcenter administrators on environment promotion, BMIDE template deployment, dispatcher configuration, AWC indexer/full-text search, and upgrade or patch impact analysis; lead technical impact analysis for platform upgrades.
- Serve as the escalation point for technical issues on production Teamcenter incidents, performance, and integration failures; lead root-cause analysis and drive permanent corrective actions.
- Mentor senior and junior developers, lead technical reviews, contribute to architectural decisions on the Teamcenter and broader digital-thread roadmap, and represent Teamcenter engineering in cross-functional architecture forums.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline; Master’s preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
- Minimum 7 years of hands-on Siemens Teamcenter development experience (Teamcenter Unified, Teamcenter 11/12/13/14 or later, or Teamcenter X), including 5+ years on AWC customization.
- Extensive codeful BMIDE customization experience: extending the data model, building custom properties and methods, and packaging templates for deployment across multi-environment landscapes.
- Extensive experience leading Active Workspace Client (AWC) customization: declarative UI (view-models in JSON), custom commands, client-side handlers, REST/SOA service consumption, and stylesheet extensions.
- Experience setting technical standards and mentoring senior engineers on a PLM or comparable enterprise platform team.
