Job Title: Materials Test Engineer

 

Reports to: Manager, Global Materials Laboratory

 

Location: Santa Theresa, NM – on-site role (no remote work)

 

Position Overview: 

  • Perform mechanical testing per recognized standards (ASTM & ISO), customer specifications, and project-based requirements.
  • Operate and maintain hydraulic test frames (MTS), DSC, DMA, rheometers, FTIR, ovens, microscopes, and other lab equipment.
  • Analyze data, interpret results, and compile comprehensive test reports.
  • Support composite panel fabrication using vacuum infusion, RTM, hand layup, and other manufacturing methods.
  • Measure and evaluate specimen dimensions for conformance with applicable standards and methods.
  • Drive continuous improvement by collaborating with lab personnel to enhance capabilities and streamline test procedures.
  • Develop and update work instructions to align with current practices.
  • Ensure compliance with the TPI Physical Sciences Laboratory’s ISO 17025 Quality Management System.
  • Assist with inventory management. 
  • Maintain a safe and organized working environment.
  • This is a full-time onsite role. Employees are expected to be present during standard business hours.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or science field.
  • Knowledge of composite manufacturing methods and material mechanics of composites.
  • Strong data analysis and presentation skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Composite Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with mechanical testing and strain gauge application.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft VBA and Excel macro development.
