Trauma and Acute Care Surgery teams provides the full range of care to patients who are critically ill with acute surgical emergencies, shock, severe sepsis, respiratory failure, and advanced multi-organ failure, in addition to caring for patients with traumatic injuries.

Here at WDH the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery team has been providing services for 10 years. In addition to providing care to patients they are also involved in community education (STOP the Bleed), EMS education/training, and safety initiatives such as life jacket stations.


 

Job Summary

Trauma & Acute Care Surgery is looking for an experienced APP for a full-time, 40 hour position which includes rounding, ED consults, and assisting in the OR with laparoscopic, robotic, and open surgeries.

This a 2nd shift opportunity with the schedule being 4, 10 hour shifts 11:00am-9:00pm. We are looking for someone with flexibility as the shift time may vary based on department needs. Mandatory weekend coverage at least one weekend a month, both Saturday and Sunday day shift.

The APP is a licensed provider. The APP is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. May also perform additional duties, such as precepting a small group of learners.

Essential Functions
-Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.
-Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
-Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
-Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
-Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
-Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.


 

Qualifications

Education
Master's Degree Physician Assistant required

Licenses and Credentials
Physician Assistant [State License] - Generic - HR Only required

Experience
2 years of experience as a PA required required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
