Job Role Summary

The Vehicle Maintenance Technician II, under general supervision, is competent to perform all the duties and responsibilities of a Vehicle Maintenance Technician I as well as, capable of welding, metal fabrication, wiring and installation of electrical components, such as emergency warning systems and communication systems. This position utilizes Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) instructions, to accurately diagnose, maintain and perform repairs to vehicles and related equipment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Models IEMS mission: Right Care. Every Patient. Every Time. With special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County.
• Models IEMS vision: The vision of IEMS is to serve the citizens and visitors of Marion County, Indiana with high quality "out of hospital" care based upon sound science and academic research while continuously improving quality with accountability and financial sustainment.
• Under general supervision is competent to perform all the duties and responsibilities of a Vehicle Maintenance Technician I as well as, capable of welding, metal fabrication, wiring and installation of electrical components, such as emergency warning systems and communication systems
• Performs routine safety inspections and preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment
• Utilizes Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) instructions, to accurately diagnose, maintain and perform repairs to vehicles and related equipment
• Assists Vehicle Maintenance Technician I with diagnostics
• Prepares accurate and legible records of maintenance and repairs
• Ensures records are securely stored
• Informs EMS Logistics Section Chief if damage to vehicle/equipment is assumed to be due to driver abuse or neglect
• Keeps up-to-date with the changing advancement of today's equipment and vehicles by participating in educational programs and in-service meetings
• Attends meetings as required
• Maintains a safe, secure and clean environment that is compliant to all regulations
• Initiates clean-up as necessary
• Helps maintain stock levels by assisting in ordering and receiving parts as needed
• Follows established departmental and hospital policies and procedures
• Coordinates vehicle maintenance schedule through EMS Logistics Section Chief
• Communicates accurate and detailed information to coworkers
• Effectively communicates using the MECA radio system

Associated Job Duties

• Provides in field repairs/support when needed
• During mass casualty event may be required to safely operate an emergency vehicle
• Maintains safety and security of building, tools, equipment and supplies
• Participates in training related to equipment maintenance and operation

• Performs other job related duties as assigned

Job Requirements

• Completion of a high school education or equivalent (GED) with at least 5 years of work experience in the field of automotive and light truck repair
• Specialized education from an accredited automotive technical school with 1 year of related work experience
• Must possess a valid U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Refrigerant Technician's Certificate for R-12 & 134A systems within 90 days of employment
• Maintains a valid Indiana driver's license that is compliant with the Vehicle/Driver Safety Program

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Proficient in installation, diagnostic and repair of emergency system related accessories (e.g. air horn, siren, strobe lighting system, suction units, invertors, shore line powered equipment, etc.)
• Knowledge of Indiana Ambulance EMS certification requirements
• Knowledge and application of garage safety precautions
• Knowledge of Universal Safety Precautions
• Ability to complete required forms legibly and accurately
• Knowledge and ability to operate a two-way radio
