The Boeing Company has an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Hardware Emulation Software Engineer to join our Simulation Team in El Segundo, CA. This position will support the Boeing Defense Services (BDS) business unit.

Our team builds software and hardware-based satellite simulators and emulators in support of the world’s highest-performing satellite systems for U.S. government and commercial customers.

In this role you will design, implement, integrate, modify, test, and debug spacecraft dynamic models and/or interface software into a real-time simulation using existing sim infrastructures on various hardware platforms (i.e., VME based, PCIe based, etc.) which communicate with various processors and custom and COTS hardware Input/Output cards. This is an opportunity to create innovative solutions and support multiple projects in a rapid, agile CI/CD environment using modern technologies and tools.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Plans and document all phases of development, integration, and test including acceptance testing of simulation products in accordance with standard, enterprise, and customer processes

  • Support software and hardware integration efforts

  • Produces and delivers design and test documentation / artifacts, including program CDRLs

  • Collaborates and supports Special Test Equipment (STE) testbed hardware teams for various emulator designs throughout the life-cycle

  • Works and interfaces with a technically diverse user community and a multi-disciplinary integrated product team (systems, ground, hardware, software, firmware)

  • Provides support to end users for simulation operation, performance, test, delivery, and maintenance

Security Clearance:

This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher

  • 3+ years’ experience with real-time/near real-time simulations packages and development

  • 3+ years’ experience with modern programming and scripting languages such as C++, Java, JavaScript, Perl, Python, Visual Basic

  • Experience in development, hardware & software qualifications, and/or hardware & software delivery

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 5+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor’s Degree and 9+ years of directly related work experience OR 13+ years of related, relevant experience

  • Experience developing hardware-in-the-loop test systems

  • Experience in real time simulation testbeds and I/O device programming

  • Experience in spacecraft systems and/or subsystems

  • Experience with the full software development lifecycle that includes requirements development through acceptance testing/certification/qualification.

  • Experience automating software builds, unit tests, and integration tests using a DevOps tool chain

  • Experience using tools such as GitLab and Bitbucket, and working in an Agile/Scrum team
